5.0 out of 5 stars Awesomeness., September 16, 2004
This review is from: A Call to the Martyrs (Audio CD)
This is an awesome CD by Mortal Treason.

The main aspect that caught my attention the most was the vocalist who has awesome vocal range. He utilizes 4 distinct vocal types on this album: Speaking vocals, clean singing, screaming, and growling. He utilizes all these types in creative ways in different songs, so you're always listening to something different and innovative. The lyrical content is mostly about God and Jesus and is written in a direct and understandable format instead of riddling everything with similes and metaphors (both a positive and negative thing, in my opinion).

The music is very heavy and the songs often have many tempo changes, going from slow to very fast, although never too slow, and never at hyper speed. The songs also tend to do a lot of mood shifts, going from melodic to heavy to somewhere in between several times. The drumming is well done and it is nice, for once, to hear creative use of the double bass. The bass is full, and deep, complementing the guitars with an audible low-end (there is also one song where the bass sounds a little emotional and creepy at the same time, done in a very creative way).

This is definitely a good buy. All the songs have their own distinct feel, and their is also a hidden acoustic track, making a total of nine songs. Nine songs may not sound like a lot, but the songs are usually around 5+ minutes. The artists behind Mortal Treason have discovered the virtue of quality over quantity by really developing the songs into creative and distinct pieces of musical work.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOTS OF ENERGY, August 4, 2004
This review is from: A Call to the Martyrs (Audio CD)
Man I am so proud of these guys for being so Hardcore in there message about Christ in there lives and in there music. They have been on Headbangers Ball, THAT IS AWSEOME.
Anyways, the Music is brutal and very Intence. The singer's voice is amazing also.
It's nice to know that you don't have to be watered down in your lyics or sell out to get reconized in the world of metal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Indescribable passion!, September 14, 2004
This review is from: A Call to the Martyrs (Audio CD)
Again I saw this band at Ichthus this past year and I was blown away by the brutality of this little known band. Their name stuck in my head and I was looking for their cd but I couldn't find it until I recently had my one of my familly members buy it for me. Let me just say that Mortal treason is brutal music and it is superb brutal music. Seth's voice is diverse in that he is able to go from a low growl to a Zao like scream, and that must be hard to transition from and he does that in almost every song. The lyrics are straight forward Christian lyrics and I think that is awesome. More Christian metal, and hardcore bands need to learn from Mortal Treason that you shouldn't have to water down your lyrics. That is awesome. Also what is amazing that the last song is a worship song and it is soft and after Seth sings he basically invites those who don't know Christ to get to know Him. I have not heard too many bands that will take a risk like that and add an invitation to know Christ on their album. Way to go. Now I gave it 4 stars because the double bass by the drummer is a little choppy at times and this cd is only 9 songs yet it is over 40 minutes long so that is good, but I wish they would have more songs on their next cd. I could get even more technical but I'm not going to because these guys are passionate at what they are doing and I highly respect that. Keep up the good work Mortal Treason and God bless.
