The Queen Of Pop Is Back,
By
This review is from: Call on Me (Audio CD)
Janet has returned with a hot summer jam. This is a sexy song that has brought our Queen Of all music back. I can't wait to see the video for her new single So Excited.

Janet and Nelly are great together. The song has a great beat and their voices compliment each other. Both artists are great!

This is a nice mid-tempo jam from Miss Janet. My only complaint with this CD single is that Tony Moran house remix was not included. This track hit #25 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the R&B Chart.

I will agree that this is not an explosive first single. I am always excited to hear Janet on the radio.
I will also agree that at times, the music can overshadow Janet's voice since it's soft. Nevertheless, I really enjoy listening to her. This song is really nice. However, not enough people are feelin it because it's not getting the radio airplay it deserves. The beat is dope, clean and the words are sincere and catchy (which I love hearing from her.) Nice collaboration with Nelly. I love it when Janet experiments with R&B, because she does a good job at it. My main issue with the track is that it's too short. In my opinion, cool down singles usually do well, when they're the second or third single. This is definitely a song I can put on repeat for more than five repitions.

Slow Burn Classic,
By Neptunian Spirit "Q" (Dayton, OH USA) - See all my reviews

There will be those that raise eyesbrows, when I say that several years from now, this single will be a well-loved classic in Janet's cannon of music.
Don't believe me, this single has actually been a steady seller, & has rode the urban chart to number one, twice, & has been touted as a "slow burn" single by formerly skeptical fans. Slow burning meaning that this isn't the type of song that is immediate, several listenings cause the listener to find new life that may've not been present upon the first contact. "Call On Me" was the first single from Janet's newest outing, "20 Y.O." , & gratefully unlike a lot of other current female acts, Janet started the party gracefully, instead of loudly (i.e.-"Deja Vu"). This slinky, tart, & utterly infectious piece R&B fluff is perfect for Janet's voice. That voice, which in fine form, floats above the harder beat, showing off her higher register quite well. Jermaine Dupri handles production, sampling the Jam & Lewis classic "Tell Me If You Still Care" by the S.O.S. Band. This gives the cut a "classic Janet" melody. Nelly's guesting ad-libs here are charming & quite gentlemanly. The single features an extended & instrumental version to this song. Give this a re-listen, & let it work it's charm on you. While not as immediately classic as her previous mid-tempo jams ("That's the Way Love Goes", or "'Got 'Til It's Gone"), it sits well next to them when re-approached. Highly recommended.

Janet does the unexpected again,
This review is from: Call on Me (Audio CD)
Call on me did not immediately grab me when I heard it the first time. In fact, I was slightly dissapointed. After several listens it started to grow on me and now I constantly play it. I like how Janet does the unexpected for first releases (e.g., TTWLG, Got till it's gone, etc). Most people expected her to come out with a club banger. Janet and Nelly's vocals compliment each other very well along with Jermaine Dupri's laid back melody and beats. I wish the radio version (album mix) was a little longer, but I still enjoy it and the extended album mix more than makes up for the length. Nice slow introduction and anticipation for 20 Y.O.

The intro (and the piano throught the song) is a little reminiscent of Without You, but beautiful nevertheless. It's a nice and catchy song and it's going to be a big hit. I don't think she's mumbling like some other reviewers have said. I think she's come up with some great new material and the long break has been worth the wait. Not only is this a great song, but from her website, it sounds like the whole of the new cd is going to be very tight. I love it and I can't wait for it to drop soon. Nelly does a good job here and I like the extended remix too and I am playing this in the car non-stop. It's great.

I heard "Call On Me" on the radio and loved it. It was a different direction for Janet, having more of an urban feel to it. When I heard Janet was going to work with Jermaine Dupri I was a little scared because I'm used to having her work with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis who gave her the signature Janet sound we all know and love. Thankfully it captures the Janet sound that we like but gave it a new urban edge. Nelly sounds great in this song too. There is good chemisty between the two artists. "Call On Me" is part of the amazing "20 YO" which is one of Janet's best albums yet. I highly reccomend this CD-single if you like Janet.
