Editorial Reviews

The Meeting

Imagine this: 35º celcius, a warm breeze, the fragrance of the ocean ... voices of people singing together - enjoying life as it is ... they sing, chant, laugh and dance `till they drop!

Who are these people?

Call them Sufi's - and Bahram-Ji is one of their number. He plays a magical instrument, the Persian Santoor, which - the Sufi's say, creates the sound of emptiness. In addition, he is a fine singer, a channel for the divine ... and a great cook!

Now imagine again: 35º celcius, disco lights, city-people, dancing close together ... based in the urban jungle of Amsterdam, Maneesh de Moor is musician and producer, who specializes in the crossover between the ethnic and the ambient - the traditional and the contemporary ... a magician, who brings the past into the present.

Different roots, but meeting in the same bliss, keyboard-wiz Maneesh and Sufi mystic Bahram-Ji jump together into the studio and created for us this most precious music. Made in deep respect for each other's amazing talents, from the heart, with no compromise.

The lyrics are based on Rumi's and other mystical poetry and the tracks carry an urban vibe rooted in meditation. A powerful concection.

They dedicate the album to ever increasing abundance love and world peace, to more friendship among tribes, to less war among brothers and ultimately to God itself. This is where their music comes from and this is the message they bring ... Inshallah.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars is not enough, August 14, 2005

If you listen to the Amazon samples they don't quit do this music justice. The samples do not allow the baseline to kick in or even the melody to repeat and you can't get a feel for this album from the samples.

Every song (except one) comes in at over 6 minutes, most over 7 minutes and the last song at 11 minutes. And at the end of every song I feel it "could" have gone another hour. The cover says "File Under: Ethno - Chill Ambient. The lyrics are based on Rumi's and other mystical poetry and the tracks carry an urban vibe rooted in meditation." I couldn't agree more. I often use the word fushion to describe music like this. I need to find a new word because these musicians have taken it to a whole new level.

I played most of this album to a class of over 20 Yoga students and every one loved it. It had the energy to carry a power flow yoga class or even a more mellow party. The length of the songs allows a deep, slow driving bass line to hypnotize you as the melodic guitar, santoor and other instruments which I don't recognize carry you to another place. Yet this is not meditation music. It has incredibly energy. In the hands of lesser artists songs like this can feel redundant at times. Not here. These brilliant artists have made not only a great listening experience but they have created something magical.

I listen to all the Buddha Bar, Lounge, etc. Claude Challe, Ravin, Arabica, etc. Traditional and modern stuff. I love all of it. This is one of the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ethno Trance, December 31, 2008

This review is from: Call of the Mystic (Audio CD)
Great album full of hypnotic trance music drawing from Indian sounds to electronica. World music at it's finest. The deep pulsing bass is able to give those with great stereos, a fantastic piece of reference material.

Very recommended.

This CD is excellent. I just got it the other day, and have been listening to it non-stop. I enjoy music that helps me to be quiet/contemplative, while also something nice to play in the background while doing other work. This CD is perfect for it. It would also be perfect for Yoga, personal chanting, making art with, or a great CD to set the mood with a loved one. I wouldn't recommend this CD if you are serious about Kirtan chanting, as this is more ambient background music, and it doesn't go deeply into mantra-chanting. I honestly wish I had purchased this CD sooner as it makes a great addition to my collection of mantram-type music.
