I found the Places while looking around a "cutting edge" music site, but there were only two songs there I could listen to. Even so, the sound of the band was so intricate that I decided to buy one of their albums...Call it Sleep. I was hexed from the start. Wow, even the songs that I don't like melodically, I'm entranced by the mood and the instrumentation. Amy Annelle's voice is perfect and the guest musicians that make up the band, play wonderfully...the result is an album that's incredibly laid back, melancholy but at the same time it oozes out a kind of cool, groovy sound as well. I particularly like "Birds are Waking", "Travel Light" and "Program Ten". If you light any sort of relaxed, melancholy (maybe even certain forms of ambient music)...then you'll probably get hooked to the Places. This album is more consistantly relaxed than The Autopilot Knows You Best (which has a more rock sound...although still subdued).
