Editorial Reviews

Incredible 1960s recordings, the missing link between rockabilly & garage punk. Carter's style is like a tortured Gene Vincent backed by the Seeds, or like Roky Erickson if he sported a quiff. A true punk Elvis. This first time anthology features mostly unissued material & the super-compressed, Joe Meek-like garage production compliments it perfectly. 28 tracks including the singles, 'Jailhouse Rock' & 'Mary Sue', both of which are highly prized by collectors. Ace Records. 2002.

5.0 out of 5 stars An obscure gem, September 26, 2009

Wow! Dean Carter was certainly ahead of his time and in a class all by himself. This has a creepy (in a good way)punk-ish rockabilly ("punk Elvis")sound to it, and the sound in "Jailhouse Rock" is out of this world. It is obvious that people like Lux Interior (R.I.P.) of the Cramps were probably listening to records like this back in the day, and Dean Carter is featured on the Cramps covers tributes like "Songs the Cramps Taught Us." I highly recommend this to anyone who likes rock and roll. I had to chuckle at the mix up with him and Deana Carter in a previous review. Who knows? Maybe Dean and Deana are related somehow.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not Deana Carter - it is Dean Carter!, January 20, 2003

Please ignore the nonsense in the review above. This is not the female country singer "Deana Carter", but the 1960's rock-n-roll male called "Dean Carter".

Deana Carter's albums are fantastic and I thoroughly recommend them.
