This is a must to anyone who is a true Ted Nugent ,or to be more specific, Amboy Dukes fan. These were the last 2 albums that Ted released as an Amboy Duke prior to becoming just Ted Nugent. And it is great that the 2 albums have been combined into 1 cd.For any who remember the excitement of the early Ted Nugent and The Amboy Dukes this one shows the energy and fire of a younger working Ted before he made it to sellout stadium status. The Dukes were just on the verge of breaking nationally.Ted was touring hard in those days...playing everywhere they could. In my humble estimation some of this was Ted at his firey finest.I was fortunate enough to see the Motor City MadMan play these 2 albums live on a couple of occasions.Great Shows!! And this CD captures Ted & the Dukes from those innovative days working hard to make the big time.Another album of the Dukes well worth checking out is "Marriage On The Rocks".This was the music that Ted made famous at all the early midwest rock festivals.Enjoy!!

The final two albums of the band's existence, Call of the Wild and Tooth, Fang & Claw represent a more Nugified, de-drugged version of the Amboy Dukes, that bridges the material from their previous efforts to that of Ted's first few solo records.

One drawback is that, as Nugent's guitar became even more dominant, it often extended songs for a full minute or two after they ran out of words. This results in an amount of repetition that becomes tiresome by the end of one album, let alone two. Songs like "Call of the Wild" and "Aint It The Truth" are great to listen to for four minutes. Five is kind of pushing it, especially when the refrains go on so long that one imagines even devoted Grand Funk groupies shouting "enough already!"

Nugent's performances on those songs are nevertheless excellent, as they are on almost the entirety of both albums, save for a couple of clunkers like the half-baked "Below the Belt" and a forgettable cover of "Maybelline." He and his band even give us a break from the monotonous lyrics with five instrumental pieces, including "Hibernation," which would later appear on Ted's Double Live Gonzo album. That, in addition to the bluesy "Rot Gut" and smooth-sounding "Free Flight" might make one wonder why he hasn't gone lyric-less for most of his solo career.

These two albums appeared right before the totally classic disc 'ted nugent' which is one of the greatest hard rock/metal albums ever. They didn't have the polish of that release but they were filled with great songs including the classic 'great white buffalo". Ted was at his peak here and he was poised to conquer with his next release. These two records were the prequel in a way to that one. They were focused in the direction that ted wanted to go and by this point the rest of the band was just teds back up band in every since of the way. These were ted nugent solo records already and most of the songs were very decent, unlike lets say the not so focused or as good either , 'marriage on the rocks" from three years earlier. The dukes put out some great albums then declined and with these two releases they were headed for superstardom with Nugent as the sole real driving force behind the band. In many ways he was always that but his vision becomes really clear with these two releases. Ted should play his hit 'journey to the center of the mind" live (that being from a earlier cd) with pride alongside some these great hits because after all this band was his baby really. At this price this twofer is well worth grabbing.

For many years Tooth, Fang, & Claw was lost to the ages. I was lucky to find this item, and it was priced accordingly, but worth it. Nugent's best razor-sharp guitar work before going solo is on this album, although the songs in the solo career are better. Finding a two-fer for a price lower than others were selling a used single album was an unexpected bonus.
