3.0 out of 5 stars Short biographies without analysis, January 27, 2010
This review is from: Callahan, Siskind & Sommer: At the Crossroads of American Photography (Hardcover)
The book presents short biographies of the three photographers, their relationship to each other, and a selection of pictures. Although academic colleagues, they don't seem to have had much in common other than the desire to experiment. Mention is made of the postwar New York City art scene and its importance to them, but, other than artists' names, nothing is really explained. Overall, a perfunctory book useful only as a brief introduction to these photographers.
