Product Description

Tour Tested Design with more spin and versatility from everywhere. Roger Cleveland combined Tour players' feedback on head shape and feel with an aggressive groove pattern and increased surface roughness to create an unparalleled scoring club. 39% larger grooves provide 25% more spin out of the rough. 5V groove found in 56*, 58*,60*64* wedges, 25% more spin claim based on full shots hit out of the rough compared to 2011 Forged Wedge. Increased surface roughness for more spin and control. Pre conditions the face to add surface roughness after the micro grooves wear off. C -Grind; Relief is ground out of the heel and toe, which enables golfers to lay the face open while effectively reducing the bounce angle. This allows for proper contact and maximum spin and control. U Grind; Inspired by Phil Mickelson this grind increases the dynamic bounce angle (actual bounce of the club when the ball is struck) without increasing the static bounce angle.

Callaway Mack Daddy 2 Wedges Standard Grind

These are highly revered by many online reviewers and golf magazines, but I found that they felt "OK" and my Maltby wedges performed about the same. The grooves and micro-texturing don't seem to perform any differently from the Titleist Vokey SM5 or my Maltby wedges. The 52 degree loft and 12 degree bounce works in tight lies (fairway) as well as deeper rough. It is important to note that the overall length is about 35.75", which takes into account the grip. This may or may not be what you are looking for if you play your wedges at the same length as your pitching wedge.

A few reviewers noted the trajectory is lower than what they expected, and I have to say that this is true. I tried the Vokey SM5 at Golfsmith, and the balls were much easier to get into the air. That said, the feel at impact is about the same for a forged wedge.

The chrome finish is very beautiful and durable. It looks and feels just like the chrome finish you'd find on many firearm chambers/bores. The Lamkin Crossline grip is very comfortable and grippy. I wasn't aware that Lamkin made so many grips for club OEMs, even the Rocketbladez and Speedblade TaylorMade irons use Lamkin manufactured grips.

UPDATE 6 SEP 2014:
After getting used to these MD2s for a few months, I decided to go back to the launch monitors and compare them with the Titleist Vokey SM5's and check out the spin, trajectory, etc... The SM5's have on average a 4-6 yd higher peak trajectory than the MD2s. However, the SM5s seem to average 3000 RPM total spin versus the 6000 RPM total spin with the MD2s. The carry/total yardage with the lower lofted SM5s are about 6-8 yards longer than the MD2s. However, the SM5 58 is on average 5 yards shorter than the MD2 58.

I would recommend this club to serious golfers. There is a learning curve. This is a well made forged club. A good scoring weapon in your bag.

I love this SW. Great balance, just feels great. Fairly forgiving club. Ball really pops up off the face of this club!

This is a wonderful wedge. Just take care and understand that it takes a lot of practice to learn how to use it well. If you want a high arc on a short approach shot that will stop on a dime than this is t club for you.

This is a really great and versatile wedge that can improve even a beginner's game. I bought two, a 52 degree and the 60 degree. The 60 degree works great in those bunkers and approach shots.

Love these wedges - bought the whole set. No terror in traps anymore. Gap wedge is dead on the money! I don't know what Callaway did in the design, but they just mad my whole game more fun.
