Great Driver, even for mid-high handicap,

This review is from: Callaway Diablo Edge Tour Driver (Sports)
I did not get the club from Amazon, rather I got it from Sports Authority during one of their deals (spend $100, get $25) at the $150 price point. Just wanted to get that out of the way. The remainder is a review of the driver, NOT the store :)
I have now owned and used this club for a couple of months and it has been a wonderful driver! My handicap currently sits in the area of 15-18, so I am not awesome, but I don't think I am a schmuck on the course either. The big decision with this club is whether or not to get the TOUR or REGULAR version (listed as Diablo Edge or Diablo Edge Tour). The regular version is geared towards higher handicappers/super-game-improvement, while the tour is geared towards lower handicappers. My reasoning for getting the tour version was that my game has improved over time and that for me to continue to improve, I need to start using some more equipment that is not all about super-game-improvement. Besides, as swings improve, there is no need for the slice correction within super-game-improvement equipment. Onto the club performance. With this club out on the range, I have no slice problems. Maybe 1 ball in 20+ will have a slight fade. Rather, I fight more hooks than slices, and in both instances, they are not major hooks or slices. This club has easily added 15+ yards over my previous driver (we won't mention it... let's just say it was 5+ years old) and is much more consistent in terms of launch angle and accuracy for those hits that are not quite in the normal sweet spot. So, minor mishits are not insanely penalized. The response of the club face does let you know when you are slightly off, so you at least get some feedback you can work with. This club is by far the most consistent I have hit (I have sampled, demoed a few others) and at the current price points (yes... it is over a year old) is a great buy. I fully recommend it.

Solid Driver,

I recently started golfing again since I was a teenager. So well over 20 years.
My old 460cc titanium driver was only giving me 180-200 yards max drive with a 10.5°. Found the 9.5° Diablo Edge Tour at a demo and tried it up against a ton of other drivers at the demo. For my swing the Diablo Edge was 10yards longer over everything at the demo, also going 40-60 yards longer over my original driver. This driver has greatly improved my game. Went from a 22 Handicap to a 14. The feedback that this driver gives is great. You just need to pay attention to the sound and the feedback it will give you. I also found that if you tend to over swing, this driver will not work. To many guys think a 300mph swing is required to get 250+ yards, when slowing down a little and pay attention to the feedback of your driver like this one helps get more distance. My drives go anywhere from 240-260 yards with a 70-75 mph swing. Also went from Slice/Fade to having a small Draw/Hook on my drives.

Great driver so far. It has a nice feel, weight, and classic look. I'm not a fan of the crazy huge drivers these days and this one fits the bill just right. Very sleek looking with its minimalist gloss black head and charcoal graphite shaft. I also purchased the tour version 3 wood and will be playing it this weekend.

This driver was a great purchase. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an affordable, reliable, well-made driver. Callaway is known for great equipment and this one is no different. The stiff shaft is an excellent fit to my game. Hitting the ball straighter and farther than I ever have with my older, "generic" drivers.

I bought this driver when it was brand new, so I paid $300 for it. Even now that I see these ridiculously low prices, it was still worth the price I paid. My guess is that it's 5-15 yards longer than my previous Nike driver on most solid drives, but I don't think it's any longer when I absolutely crush it, as compared to my previous drivers. The thing that I love about it, though, is that it's definitely more forgiving. It also sounds great, but that's just a bonus. I like to hit it long, but I used to waste 8-10 strokes a round by hitting OB on many of my long drives. I would estimate that I'm saving at least 6-8 strokes per round because of the accuracy of this driver. Unfortunately, the strokes I've taken off with the driver I've put back on (and then some) with my new X-20 irons, because I can't seem to adjust to the shaft length, but that's another story. Anyway, I've had several good drivers, but this one is the best. For the first time in many years, I'm not itching to try a new driver!
