Book Description

8 and up3 and up

Loyal fans of this classic horse series -- and readers who are discovering Thoroughbred books for the very first time -- will love this specially packaged gift set featuring the first four books in the collection. Experience the love and friendship shared between Ashleigh Griffen and her very special filly, Wonder.

A Horse Called Wonder

Ashleigh Griffen swore she'd never give her heart to another horse -- not after a terrible virus wiped out her family's breeding farm. But when a small, sickly foal is born, Ashleigh is the horse's only champion.

Wonder's Promise

Ashleigh is thrilled when the owner of Townsend Acres puts her once ailing filly into training as a Thoroughbred racer. But Wonder bucks and disobeys her harsh new trainer. The trainer is convinced Wonder can't be disciplined. After Ashleigh is thrown from Wonder, she thinks the trainer might be right. Is it time to give up on Wonder?

Wonder's First Race

Wonder has come through training with flying colors. Now Ashleigh and the trainer are getting Wonder ready for the biggest race of her career: the Kentucky Derby.

Wonder's Victory

Wonder is training for her next big race when her regular jockey is injured. Now Ashleigh is Townsend Acres only hope. Can she ride her favorite filly to the Winner's Circle?

A Kid's Review
This review is from: A Horse Called Wonder/Wonder's Promise/Wonder's First Race/Wonder's Victory (Thoroughbred Series 1-4) (Paperback)
An excellent introduction! If you have not yet experienced the Thoroughbred series, this box set contains four perennial favorites that will introduce you to Ashleigh Griffin, Samantha McLean, Ashleigh's Wonder, Fleet Goddess and several more unforgettable characters.

Unfortunately, Harper Collins has decided to end the series abruptly after #72. With such a dedicated following and online fan base with members from all over the world, this is a classic and beloved series that has inspired many people and provided horse fans with vicarious thrills and adventure. Ashleigh saved Wonder, now it's up to you to help save Thoroughbred. [...] join the effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great begining, October 7, 2004
This review is from: A Horse Called Wonder/Wonder's Promise/Wonder's First Race/Wonder's Victory (Thoroughbred Series 1-4) (Paperback)
These are great books and the other reviews r about other books, the first one is about a girl whos old thoroughbred breeding farm got run outta buisness becuz most of the horses got sick and most also died. Ashleigh(the girl) her parents, didn't have enough insurance to cover it, so they had to become breeding managers of this HUGE racing stable. Then, Holly, the horse ashleigh grooms, has a sick filly and everyone wants to give up on her. then the owner of the farm wants to sell her. Rather problematic, but a good book.

The second book is about wonders training, but Ashleigh babyed wonder to much, so the harsh new trainer says that wonder wont make it to be a racer. Ashleigh falls off, gets afraid of wonder, starts doubting herself, read the rest to find out.

The third book is about wonder racing, she does real good, and so she is pointed towards the kentucky derby but then snot bag brad works her out on and icy track, wonder is lame, we all are sad. This book is mainly about how many problems we can blame brad for.

The fourth and final book in this box set is about how wonder won the derby and we are all happy happy happy and of COURSE she has to run in the preakness and the belmont, then she she gets all agitated after the triple crown, and throws off her jockey, jockey cant ride her in the breeders cup, ashleigh has to ride.

Almost to many problems in the series, but they r good.
