4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice paper for brush writing and ink practice
This paper is lovely for calligraphy practice and brush painting. Much nicer than the usual rice paper available from local Asian markets, the sheet is smoothly laid and thick enough to absorb the ink properly. Yes, ink will run through, but not like the "average" rice paper. Thought: although it is called "rice paper", do not use the shoji screen paper for ink work - it...

1.0 out of 5 stars Bush writing paper
The paper doesn't remain flat after painting on it with ink. It gets warped and so one can't do anything serious on it. Its ok for practice but even then since it becomes warped, brush strokes become a little tricky since the surface is not flat any more. I was looking for rice paper, but this seems like it is something else.

Thought: although it is called "rice paper", do not use the shoji screen paper for ink work - it will suffice, but with paper like this available, why bother? Very pleased and will buy again.

Excellent product. High quality item. No creases or stains. Textured in a good way. Would buy again in bulk next time to save on shipping costs.

5.0 out of 5 stars good paper good price, May 19, 2010

This is suprisingly good paper for the price and makes much better calligraphy practice paper than newsprint. The pull of the brush on this paper is much closer to higher quality papers, and the absorbancy allows for some wonderful spreading for watercolor practice. This keeps me from getting lazy and dawdling over my brush strokes instead of making them boldly and precisely. See it in my mind for two minutes but make the stroke in only two seconds.

I am just now new to learning Chinese and Chinese Characters. For my humble purposes, this paper along with the brush pen make a good combination for basic stroke practice. The ink does bleed through because the paper is thin. I put something behind it as protection. (This also may occur because of the pressure I use during writing.) To me, the paper seems silky smooth on one side and slightly dull and textured on the other side. I like it because it is simply different than most paper I've experienced and my brush pen glides easily on the surface. This paper may not be to everyone's liking, and it may not suit more advanced writing efforts / projects than mine. :)
