A Highly Under Rated Band,
By A Customer
This review is from: Calling All the Heroes: Best of (Audio CD)
It Bites is one of the most versatile and profound genres in rock music that went unnoticed by so many for way too long. Thier ability to blend reggae, pop and new age into a metal foreground is totally mind blowing. Thier music is very unique, diverse and original. Anyone who listens to this group for the first time is in for an audible rollercoaster ride. The only unfortunate thing about this particular release is that the tracks have been edited, but with the availability of almost any release by this band being out of print, you still might want to give them a try. Some of the best tracks on this album are "Strange But True, Kiss Like Judas, Underneath Your Pillow, All In Red, Midnight and Screaming On the Beaches." Well worth having to enhance any CD collection.

It Bites built a reputation as a solid pop-prog band of the 80's, lead my Francis Dunnery. During Dunnery's time in the band they released 3 albums, of which you get a few tracks in this compilation. If you like the pop side of It Bites, then this is a 5 star compilation for you. But if you are interested in the "proggy" side of It Bites be advised, this album has edited versions, which cuts a few of the instrumentally inclined moments, and there's a few longer, proggier songs not included in this compilation. This becomes then a good introduction to the band... but there is more to explore.
I can also recommend THE TALL SHIPS, an album without Francis Dunnery, but with John Mitchell doing a hell of a job on a very melodic, proggy pop album. |
