A rocking good vamp tale,
This review is from: The Calling: Darkness Calls (Book 1) (Silhouette Intimate Moments No. 1283) (Mass Market Paperback)
Rocking good Vampire story. Caridad Pineiro penned Darkness Calls, a modern day vampire tale, that is so enjoyable! She has a refreshing natural voice that lends well to her tale of a female agent on the track of a serial killer. Believe it, I
will be watching for more from this talent writer. FBI Agent Diana Reyes, had always been trouble with night terrors, but hidden it well from her family growing, hid it from her partner. She is a tough as nails, by the book agent, determined to stop a killer viciously killing women who frequented a club called The Lair. But she is not prepared for meeting Ryder Latimer, the owner of the nightclub, when she offers herself up for bait in the FBI investigation. Their paths cross on her first night as bait, sensing the man even before she comes face to face with him. Knowing he might be a suspect, she tries to keep her instant attraction hidden. But Ryder won't let her back away from it. For too long, Ryder has seen her in his dreams. He yearns to grow closer to Diana, the woman who has haunted him for years, but fears an FBI agent will not quite be so accepting of his "little secret". He is a vampire. However, as Diana begins to share his dreams, there may be no hiding his secret from her. Together Ryder and Diana must stop the killer close to Ryder, and must learn to trust each other, come what may. Pineiro delivers up a good tale with a touch of humor, strong characters and a well developed plot guaranteed to please all readers, but especially vamp fans.

Love beckons from the shadows,
By Anza Carrillo "heavenlyanza" (Ohio, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Calling: Darkness Calls (Book 1) (Silhouette Intimate Moments No. 1283) (Mass Market Paperback)
Diana Reyes is an FBI agent in search of a sadistic killer who brutally tortures his victims before dumping their bodies. While staking out a club in search for the killer, Diana sees club owner Ryder Latimer, an enigmatic man with whom she instantly shares chemistry. Diana's not looking for a relationship though - not only is Ryder initially considered to be a suspect in the murders, but Diana refuses to get too close to any man. After losing her father in a drive-by shooting as a teen, Diana knows the pain of losing someone you love more than life, and she reasons that if she stays away from emotional attachments, she'll avoid the pain that inevitably comes with them.Ryder Latimer had seen her in his dreams, and there she was right before him. She is forbidden, though - she is a living, breathing woman, and he is a vampire. After being attacked by a roving band of vampires during the Civil War, Ryder has been one of them, and he knows that involving himself with a mortal woman could unleash his darkest impulses. Still, Diana is too desirable to dismiss from his thoughts, but if she learns the truth about him, will she hate him? This book was pretty good, and unusual because of the vampire element. The tension between the two main characters was incredible, as they both fought against their desire for the other. I also enjoyed the fact that the heroine was a latina like myself. The only thing I didn't get with the book was the ending, it seemed a bit too abrupt and left me wondering exactly what had happened. I can't describe it in detail or I'd give away the ending, but I was left a bit confused. I would like to see another story that includes Diana and Ryder as secondary characters someday in the future. Perhaps some of the secondary characters in this book could have their own story. Altogether, this book was definitely interesting and unique, and I look forward to reading more stories from this author.

A wonderful 'forbidden love' story,

Normally I don't read vampire stories, but I decided to give this book a try and I'm glad I did. Everything about this book was excellent---all the life-like characters, a 'gutsy' heroine and a 'tortured' hero, a realistic suspense plot that did not overwelm the rest of the book and a very passionate, heartwarming 'forbidden love'story. Sometime in the future it would be great to meet up again the Diane and Ryder to see how they're doing. I will definitely read another book by this author.

I was dissapointed with this book. The characters were not that well developed and for a vampire book, Ryder is not much of a vampire. I was did not like the weakness of his character. He had no real powers that vampires are supposed to have. The fact that their is a serial killer in the book could of been intriguing but again their was not much to his charater either and he did not really even appear untill the end of the book. I was bored throughout the book.

FBI agent Diana Reyes is investigating two murders that seem to have ties to the night club "The Lair" which is own by Ryder Latimer One night Diana and her partner go to the club to see what they can find out. Diana feels as if she is being watched and wonders if its the killer. yet does not feel that what ever it is is a threat.
Ryder Latimer is in the cat walk above the crowd also watching if maybe he can see something suspense with the crowd and that's when he notice Diana, But what makes it even stranger he is sure he has seen her face before but that cant be possible because he's been seeing her for nearly a century in his dreams. When Diana decides to go outside by the ally for fresh air and to see if there is something out there she finds she is not alone but in fact Ryder is also out there. At this point unaware of who is enemy or not they move very carefully about it other until Ryder take hold of Diana's wrists which she is none to please with and she and she slams an elbow into his face and follow with a full round house kick. Ryder recovers and and blocks the next blow and sends her right into a brick wall. After this misunderstanding and then reailezing that Ryder was in the ally because he to has concerns about the murders that are involving his club he was outside checking to make sure that nothing was happening there. It seems that both Diana and Ryder are going to more involved together with this investacation then maybe they wanted. Diana knows that he is keeping secerts but she's not sure if its because he's the killer or something else that may be just as important. And he is unsure this is going to work because his secerts can be a deadly as any killer and he is also finding that his attraction can lead to place is doesnt know he is ready to go. THIS WILL HAVE YOU ON A ROLLER COSTER RIDE OF EMOTIONS AND FEARS AND MAYBE LOVE WILL FIND A PLACE HERE TOO.......ALL IT TAKE IS A STEP INTO THE DARKNESS. DO YOU DARE?

I loved writing DARKNESS CALLS because it was dark, edgy and romantic. I hope you will also enjoy it. Here's a small sampling of some of the reviews:Latina Magazine: "Anne Rice, move over. This Cuban American writer sucks up to the `vampire romance' genre with a Latin vengeance . . ." |
