Book Description

He's had a wild ride, and now sex club owner Josh Scott is looking for a change of scene. But first, he's determined to bring two friends together, and he's willing to be a third wheel to move things along...

Beth Norris is eager to be set up with hot bartender Oliver Stephenson, but she's equally attracted to matchmaker Josh. Soon she's fantasizing about both men at once—and about being the one to call the shots in the encounter...

Ready to move on with his life post-divorce, Oliver is conflicted by the realization that he's attracted to women and men. Or more specifically, to Beth and Josh. He tries to keep his distance, but it's not long before the chemistry between the trio combusts in a night of mind-blowing sex.

In the light of day, it's clear something deeper than desire is growing between Josh, Beth and Oliver. But though Josh has helped others find love in unconventional relationships, is he willing to take a chance on one himself?

3.0 out of 5 stars Comes with too much baggage for my tastes. October 8, 2012
By Letitia
Format:Kindle Edition
Rating: C ... Heat: Sizzling

Warning: This story has the usual m/f as well as m/m, m/f/m, and m/m/f ménages. There is also femdom, bondage and elements of D/s.

Review:

Josh Scott, owner of Mavericks - a sex club that caters to people's most wanton whims, is feeling restless. Not willing to look within himself for the reason, he decides to open a second club in Montreal. Start fresh, leave the past behind. But before he moves on, he wants to make sure two important people in his life, Beth and Oliver, realize their feelings for each other.

Beth Norris has worked for Josh, as his assistant manager, since she was fired from Pulled Long coffeehouse in book two, Shot in the Dark. She has become Josh's right-hand woman and the two have grown close over the years. But not as close as Beth would like. Since meeting him, she has had a crush on both Josh and Oliver.

Oliver Stephenson, head bartender at the club, is going through a nasty divorce. A divorce that has caused him to reevaluate himself, his life--everything. When he realizes he's crushing on both Beth and Josh, the formerly straight guy has a lot to think about.

And when you combine the three, well, watch out. It is going to get lusty. And messy. Josh, Beth, and Oliver are three people with some serious relationship hang ups. When you mix that with a woman with a penchant for femdom, a man who tops, bottoms, and loves both sexes equally, and another man who likes to be dominated and is just beginning to explore his kinkier side--yeah. Watch out.

Because it all adds up to some kinky, kinky stuff. Seriously. There is one scene in particular, when Beth is REALLY getting her femdom on, that had my eyes widening and my cheeks blushing. It was a new experience, lemme tell ya. Wow.

I feel very conflicted when it comes to Calling the Shots. I liked the characters, I liked the sex, but I would have liked a lot less drama. This book has drama and more drama, I kid you not. And, I'm sorry, but (with the exception of Josh) it felt like a whine fest at times. So, while Calling the Shots is a kinktastic ménage free-for-all love story... it comes with too much baggage for my tastes.

3.0 out of 5 stars drama, drama, and more drama... October 9, 2012
By Paula
Format:Kindle Edition
Josh has always known that he is a bisexual man and, because he was discriminated and degraded for his sexual preferences when he was younger, he decides to open a club, a safe haven, where people are able to explore their sexual fantasies in private. He has formed a crush on his assistant manager, Beth, and bartender, Oliver. He is the most experienced of the three but because of his insecurities from being mistreated growing up, he is afraid to be in a permanent threesome relationship. Instead of pursuing Beth and Oliver, he decides he wants them to be happy and tries to set them up. What he didn't expect is for Beth and Oliver to pursue him.

Beth has always been drawn to Josh. And now she's attracted to Oliver, the new bartender. She knows there is chemistry between the three of them and wants to explore having a threesome with both men. After a night with both men, she's discovered her true nature in the bedroom. She is a switch. She likes to be dominated and submit. She's also discovered that she wants to spend more time with both men in a relationship and she's willing to fight for them.

Oliver is trying to start over after his wife cheated on him and took all his money. He's always been attracted to Beth, since he started working at the club, but what's even more baffling is his attraction towards Josh. He's always known that he's wanted more in a sexual relationship but, because he loved his wife so much, he has never explored his true sexual nature. With Josh and Beth, he finds that he enjoys being a submissive and discovers that he is bisexual.

I really enjoyed this relationship in the beginning. They flirted, teased, and laughed together. But for some reason, as soon as these three hooked up, all of their doubts and insecurities came to the surface in full force. I can understand that these three people are seriously damaged but the drama and constant repetition to their back stories was too much. By the end of the story, I was so over the drama that it was hard for me to feel anything for the characters.

Calling the Shots is definitely a very hot and steamy erotica. I requested this book because of the ménage trois relationship. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't completely interested in all the kinky ways these three could have sex. Two bisexual males and a woman could mean so many things in the bedroom. Yes, I am dirty. And, there is no doubt the sex scenes hit my kinky side just right. But, even though the sex scenes were scrumptious, I thought the drama was completely over the top and exhausting.

Review:

"Calling The Shots" by Christine D'Abo is the fourth in the 'Long Shorts' series for this author. This story has lots of twist and turns that kept you reading to see what was coming next in this story. Now, I want you to know that this is a menage relationship, so if this isn't your kind of genre....You know what to do. This was definitely a story of three people who were learning to embrace just who they were and trying to fight off the demons of their past and in the end finding love. It was quite a read seeing these three laughing, flirting and teasing each other. The characters were all well developed and omg the erotic love scenes were...well this is the time that I say you must pick up "Calling The Shots" to see just what all this is about. Be ready for a lots of drama along with this good read.

If you are looking for a good steamy book with a menage trios relationship, "Calling The Shots" would be recommended to you.
