5.0 out of 5 stars The thrilling seventh book in the Sweep series., November 27, 2001
Morgan has discovered her true heritage, but she has paid an enormous price. In just a few short months, her life has changed forever. Cal, her first love, the one she thought was her soulmate, betrayed her, and then died to save her. She has come to love Hunter, Cal's half-brother, and believes he may be her soulmate. She is learning more about magick, her powers, and her birth parents, and on a trip to New York City with Hunter and some of her friends, she hopes to learn even more. But Morgan is not prepared for the truths she discovers, and everything she has ever believed about her birth parents is challenged. Is Morgan strong enough to face the truth, even if it will break her heart? The ending to this book completely shocked me and left me eager to read the next book. This book is an essential read for any fan of the Sweep series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just as good as the last!, November 27, 2001
In Cate Tiernan's new book The Calling, Morgan has been haunted with terrifying dreams of animals and magick. When she tells hunter this he senses they might be important so he tells the council of it and they agree. Soon Morgan, Hunter, Sky, Raven, Robbie, and Bree are off on a road trip to NYC (as the city photos on the cover suggests). Morgan is interested in learning what her dreams mean and getting closer to Hunter but neither of those options seem open. Hunter is out looking around all day and no one knows what's really going on. Then without warning, Morgan is thrown head first into magickal mayhem that she never suspected. By the end of the book she has made two shocking revealations that will change her forever.

This book was just as good as the last. Once again Cate Tiernan has written a thrilling book about magick, love, and finding oneself. I highly reccomend this book to anyone who has been following the series, in fact I find it nessicary. This is a very important edition in Morgans life and an equally important edition to the series. I can't wait till the next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars The irony of it all!, January 29, 2002

This is an amazing book that creates many mind twists and hard jolts. Morgan has been having disturbing dreams involving a sacrafice that the concil wants Hunter to check out AND Morgan much to Hunter's dislike in New York City. (aww...how cute, anyway) They go along with Bree, Robby, Sky, and Raven(all the couples)to Bree's fathers apartment who is barly ever there. ooo la la. Hunter is gone most the time with Sky so Morgan is really bummed. Mean while Morgan meets a few strangers who she feels connected somehow with. Who are they and who is this stranger about to be sacraficed??! Time is running out. Okay people get ready for the grand daddy of all suprises! actually TWO but hey, whoes counting? I give Miz Tiernan a LOT of pretty smelling roses for this mind spinner! Truth be told the last page is what killed me! i mean i LOVED it but gosh darn it! i wanted MORE. Talk about an emotional rollercaoster that makes ya want to throw up! Alas, my eyes blur with the fact that i don't have book 8 yet! i know i know. but they say NO spoilers. :(

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Surprising, November 25, 2001
By
This was a very good book, but I think she has done better.
In the book Morgan realizes she is in love with Hunter. She's told him many times but for some reason he's never said it to her. The whole plot of the book is Morgan, Hunter, Bree, Robbie, Sky and raven travel to New York to find some answers about a vision Morgan's been having. While there Morgan learns of the visions meaning and tried to help.Could her helping put her and the others life in danger?
Throughout the book Morgan learns more of her past and it causes her to make a BIG decision in the end. want to knowthe decision? Well her decision is... yea right read the book to find out.

Cate Tiernan's The Calling was her best to me.
This book takes Morgan an an emotional ride down to New York and back.
As Morgan learns more about the Craft she also learns more about her past. When Morgan has a prophetic dream about someone in trouble and Hunter is sent by the council to check it out. They go to New York with Bree, Raven, Sky and Robbie tagging along. Morgan runs into a man she knows nothing about, While Hunter and Sky are checking out whatever they find. The man is very powerful and mysterious. But is the man friend or foe?

5.0 out of 5 stars Crackling, Intense, & Magickal, November 13, 2001
Cate Tiernan's done it again. She has woven thoughts, emotions, and storylines, into a very perplexing, fluid, and intense peice that makes the magick within this book seem almost tangible. This book bent my heart nearly in two...Morgan experiences so much grief, all culminating to an intense climax..pieces of a perplexing puzzle finally come together, forming an intricate story that shows Tiernan's amazing talent at writing. I couldn't wrench my eyes from the pages...Meager ratings could only be incredibly understated, as this series goes beyond the worth a few gold stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars A New Challenge for Morgan, August 27, 2003
By
Joshua Koppel (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Morgan has overcome Cal and his mother. They are no longer a threat. But Cal's mother was part of an evil coven and they know Morgan is around.

A dream/nightmare has Morgan, Hunter (the seeker) and some of the rest of the coven heading for New York City. The International Council of Witches believes that an evil witch is going to sacrifice his son to increase his powers. This allows Morgan and Hunter to go (along with his sister Sky and her girlfriend Raven). Bree and Robbie also go as Bree's father has a place they can stay in the city.

Morgan also tries to use the time to learn more about her mother (she had lived in New York City for a couple of years).

But everything changes when the evil witch rears his head and tires to kill Morgan and not his son Killian.

Well, there are plenty more books in the series so you probably know that Morgan survives but you will have to read it to find out about the others. There are personal and relationship developments aplenty and some plot twists and revelations that help set up the next few books.

A pretty good addition to the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweep 7: The Calling, June 30, 2002

Morgan has a terrifying dream. Hunter tells the council and it turns out someone will die without their help. The dream leads Morgan and Hunter, accompanied by Sky, Raven, Robbie, and Bree to New York. Hunter wants Morgan to lay low and stay out of this, which is fine because Morgan has plans of her own. She decides to find Maeve and Angus's old house and get the gold watch that Ciaran, Maeve's soulmate, gave her. Through this though Robbie and Morgan get into an argument that Morgan is abousing her powers. Not only that but it turns out that Ciaran is in New York along with a section of Amyranth. By the end of this book we discover a shocking revelation that will once again cause Morgan's life to go through a great change.

OMG! The ending was soo sad. I felt soo bad for Morgan and the things she had to do and what she found out. I actually felt like crying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweep 7, November 26, 2001
Another exciting addition to the Sweep series. Fans shouldn't miss this one.

The story starts off with Morgan having a prophetic nightmare and notifies Hunter. Hunter contacts the Council about Morgan's dream and, to no surprise, the Council sends Hunter to New York city to investigate a mysterious dark coven that practices the forbidden arts of shape-shifting (the origins of Morgan's nightmare point to this coven). Of course, Morgan, Sky, Raven, Bree, and Robbie are there to support Hunter.

Once they get to New York, it becomes a race against time. Somebody is calling Morgan through reoccurring dreams to save he/she from impending death. Morgan and Hunter must act fast before someone dies. Two new important characters are introduced--Killian and Ciaran. Killian is a "wild child" at heart and Morgan likes him from the start. Ciaran, on the other hand, fills Morgan with a sense of dread and fear. Can Morgan defeat such a huge adversary such as Ciaran? What will it take? You know the drill: Read to find out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweep #7 - The Calling, October 6, 2003
By A Customer
Like the rest of the books in this series, "The Calling" was very compelling. If you know the series well enough, it's kind of predictable, but that doesn't make it any less suspenseful. The ending is REALLY sad and shocking. I liked the fact that "The Calling" took place in New York City, as opposed to Widow's Vale - it made for a nice change of scenery and a good atmosphere to introduce new characters.
