Book Description

At the beginning of her search for Rook, a missing Chess Team member, Zelda Baker, Callsign: Queen, is redirected to Pripyat, Ukraine, a ghost town on the radioactive outskirts of Chernobyl. Intel indicates that splinter cell of Manifold Genetics—a ruthless corporation dismantled by Chess Team—may be operating in the area. Tasked with confirming the existence of a Manifold facility, Queen begins a recon sweep of the abandoned town in search of clues, but soon finds herself fighting for her life. Something sinister lurks beneath the decaying, surreal remnants of Pripyat’s never-used amusement park, and it rises up to greet Queen.

In Pripyat, the streets are empty, the derelict buildings crumble, but the bodies…are fresh.

THE CALLSIGN BOOKS: Callsign: Queen (30,000 words) is the second in a series of Chess Team novellas being released in 2011. Each of the six books follows a single member of the team and are titled for them; Callsign: Queen, Callsign: Knight, etc, and are co-authored by Jeremy Robinson and six other fantastic authors. The stories take place after the events of THRESHOLD, the third Jack Sigler thriller, but are designed to introduce readers to the series. If you haven't read the novels, no worries. Enjoy the ride!

5.0 out of 5 stars Such fun! September 21, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Queen, check. Evil bad guys, check. Monsters of legend, check. It's all here in the second installment of the Chess Team novellas. Mr. Robinson once again delivers us a fast-paced, fun tale with all of the things that make all of his novels so much fun to read. Here we have Queen, while searching for her missing team member Rook, diverted by Deep Blue to a small Russiaon town that is seemingly dead. Her mission: recon only. She is to check and see if there is any presence of Manifold Genetics and then report back to that appropriate action can be taken. But this is Queen and observing while not really getting involved isn't much her style.

When she finds a teenage girl hiding out in the town she is thrown right into the teeth of a creature of legend and almost gets killed. Further investigation reveals a strong Manifold presence and another facility doing experiments designed to try and create a bigger, better, stronger soldier. Queen decides to try and put an end to things but not before she has to battle those same creatures and an amusement park that comes to life with a series of grusome, deadly traps.

I love the Chess Team and i love these novellas. They are a great way to get a dose of the team while waiting for the next full length adventure or a perfect way of being introduced to the series and the world of Mr. Robinson. I can't wait for the next one. Keep em coming.

4.0 out of 5 stars Queen Rocks! September 27, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
All hail the Queen. She is so badass she would make Rambo look like a sissy!

If you have read all of the chess team full length novels, you HAVE to read the CHESSOPACLYPSE (I hope I spelled that right) novella's! These books grab you right off the bat and don't let go. The KING book was great but the QUEEN book was even better. I couldn't put it down. I will not go into any details about the books because I don't want to take anything away from your reading of the books. If you choose to buy/read these books, I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

I am now on to ROOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars Action packed adventure in Russian ghost town September 25, 2011
By Sytse
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
After having read the earlier Chessteam novellas I was looking forward to this one in particular. Not only because of getting to know the female lead character of the Chess team a bit better, but also to experience new writers. The Chesspocalypse series provided me with several new writers that I have added to my must read list and this book added another name to that ever growing list.

David Wood and Jeremy Robinson are providing an action packed story that makes it very hard to let the book go before it's finished. A deserted town in Russia, a female special operative and a dangerous themepark filled with deadly attractions as well as bloodthirsty citizens are the main elements of this book. When Queen is on her way looking for the missing Rook, she suddenly finds herself in a small ghost town near Czernobyl. Strange sightnings as well as mysteriously dissappearing people soon prove to be the beginning of another piece of the Manifold coorporation puzzle.

The book reads like a movie, interesting characters and well written action sequences, one of the best in the series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong female lead. March 5, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Queen is on her way to find Rook, who has disappeared after their last assignment, Deep Blue detours her to Pripyat, a deserted city on the outskirts of Chernobyl. Evidence has been found that Manifold Genetics has a secret lab there. Her mission is to confirm the existence of the lab.

Queen arrives at Pripyat and immediate finds the body of a young man. Then she gets attacked by some kind of monster that looks partially human. Continued investigation finds a young girl hiding from the monster. Queen and the girl are chased by the security team, who Queen decimates. While trying to find an entrance to the lab that she now knows is there, she gets to play on some rides at the amusement park. However, these rides have been modified and more of the monsters come out to attack her.

Queen is a petite, young gal. Her background has made her tough. She is smart, strong, agile, and she knows how to fight. This fast paced story held my attention. Being a gal, I found Queen to be just a bit unbelievable. However, I could identify with her and escape into the story because I believe that all women would like to be strong. It’s a good stand-alone story, but I believe it needs the previous stories to give a real feel of who Queen is.

This is a good book with a strong female lead character. A quick read for those who read other stories based on secret ops team saving the world from mad scientist. I recommend this short story.

5.0 out of 5 stars another winner! November 16, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Love Queens character, she rocks. Add bad guys, monsters, perfect fit in the Chess team novella series. You get more one on one with the characters, which I really enjoy. I think the different authors really are making it work! Unfortunately, I read fast, and alot, so my only issue is I finish them (and most full length books) much faster than I may like...
keep up the great stories, while you keep writing them, I will read and keep recommending them!
