Book Description

November 21, 2005
The “trauma of childbirth” is a commonly heard phrase, but one that Calm Birth authoritatively counters. Beginning with a history of the repression of women as midwives and healers and a look at the lingering legacy of that time, the book shows how to restore childbirth to its sacred status. Calm Birth combines three proven practices that together create a powerful new approach. These practices—relaxation, meditation, and healing—combine with current scientific knowledge to nurture the expectant mother’s natural ability to give birth in true harmony with her body and with her infant. The book contextualizes the multilayered Calm Birth method within the existing literature of mind/body medicine and meditation science, as well as the meditation traditions from which two of the methods originate. The author complements the thoughts of renowned experts including Carlos Castaneda and Carolyn Myss with eight inspiring case studies of women who have experienced calm births.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book out there to prepare for labor!, February 5, 2008
This review is from: Calm Birth: New Method for Conscious Childbirth (Paperback)
I LOVE this book!!! It is VERY difficult to find a book about labor and delivery that is focused on natural, holistic philosophies. Of the few that are out there, this is by far the best! I started out with other, more well known approaches and appreciated the general nature of the techniques, but found them lacking in spiritual depth and feeling somewhat superficial. If you just want techniques, they may be good approaches for you. However, I was looking for something that had a deep, philsophical foundation in addition to great techniques. What I love about this book is how it talks about the entire process of pregnancy, labor/delivery, and postpartun care. It is truly an holistic approach and I am grateful to have stumbled upon it!! I can't wait to read the author's other books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Calm Birth - New Method for Concious Childbirth, November 19, 2007
This review is from: Calm Birth: New Method for Conscious Childbirth (Paperback)
This book offers a method that is new in this sense, methods that are steeped in ancient tradition and proven scientifically have been brought together in a cohesive form for women to use in childbirth. It is a method that can help erase fears and help women discover their own power. This method gives women the opportunity to give birth to their baby in a concious and healthy way whether they have their babies without drugs, with drugs or by cesarean. I highly recommend this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Calm Birth Book, August 3, 2010

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Calm Birth: New Method for Conscious Childbirth (Paperback)
I ordered this book because I want a "calm" birth experience. A good part of the book was just about the development of the calm birth method and not actually explaining it. The part where they actually go into explaining the actual method is a little short in my opinion. It would have been nice to have less of a history lesson and more of a true "calm birth" lesson. I do have it in my hospital bag and will read the relaxation technique again when I get to the hospital. Still would have liked to have more details.
