Review

Calm Birth is a sublime gift to all of us. It contains the blueprint for reconnecting with birth wisdom on all levels. Reading through this book and doing the practices will transform the birth process and imprint a peaceful beginning in both mother and child. The positive impact of this on society can't be overestimated.”
– Christiane Northrup, MD, author of Mother-Daughter Wisdom, The Wisdom of Menopause, and Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom

Calm Birth: A New Method for Conscious Childbirth successfully bridges ancient feminine healing wisdom and meditation to contemporary birth practices. With a broad overview of the history of birth, and deep personal knowledge of meditation, the author presents practical methods which have the power to redefine birth from a “medical problem” to a natural human process that blesses life itself. With the possibility of safe and calm birth, bonding and trust occur easily and naturally and spread to family, community, and beyond. This book is a must for anyone interested in childbirth.”
—Barbara Findeisen, MFT, president of the Association of Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health

Calm Birth is the childbirth method that society and I have waited for. It’s been a long time coming, a very long time. I am a midwife and an educator, with a steady devotion to childbirth. I urge everyone to buy Robert Newman's inspired book. Every library–public, institutional, and personal–must have copies of Calm Birth. The book does what is so deeply needed. It heals the Earth by healing birth."
– Jeannine Parvati Baker, author of Prenatal Yoga and Natural Childbirth and Conscious Conception

“Newman follows the tradition of the earlier pioneers such as Dick-Read, Lamaze, and Bradley in offering practical and ground-breaking solutions to the stresses of birth, but exceeds their efforts by a wide margin. This is essential reading for birth and other professionals who handle birth-related impacts such as pediatricians, pre- and perinatal practitioners, childbirth educators, doulas, midwives, nurses, and others. It is essential reading for expectant parents who can promote the health of their babies and prevent unnecessary negative impacts via Calm Birth. And the book is magnificant reading!”
–William Emerson, PhD, author of more than thirty pre- and perinatal publications, and director of the Emerson Training Seminars

“Robert Newman's Calm Birth program provides couples and professionals alike a beautiful map, a method and a philosophy, to prepare for birth in a way that honors and helps them connect with their deepest innate nature and abilities. Meditation methods in Calm Birth opens up a vista of hope, empowerment, inner wisdom, and confidence to trust the ability to birth naturally. Families’ stories gracefully illuminate how Calm Birth ignites transformational experience in life, pregnancy, birth, and beyond. I hope you read this book.”
——Wendy Anne McCarty, Ph.D., R.N., author of Welcoming Consciousness (2005) and founding chair of the Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology Program at the Santa Barbara Graduate Institute
