WASTE,

This review is from: The Calorie Counter: 4th Edition (Mass Market Paperback)
I purchased this book because I was looking for a quick reference calorie guide. I recently started keeping a food journal and needed something I could carry around in my purse. The book is useless, it only includes calorie counts for prepackaged food. Why would I want that? Prepackaged food already has the calorie counts on the packages. I would use the Calorie King book. Infinitely better and more compact.

It wasn't everything I wanted,

I wasn't in love with this book. It wasn't everything I hoped for. The online information didn't really tell enough about the book. It's small print, kind of hard to really read. The area for the "fast food" section wasn't for my part of the country.

Useful if you eat out a lot.,
This review is from: The Calorie Counter: 4th Edition (Mass Market Paperback)
If you eat out a lot and you want to get a general idea of which foods carry the most calories, this is a pretty good book. It does not ONLY include details on packaged foods from the grocery. It also includes numbers on foods from restaurants and popular fast food joints. These places DO NOT advertise their nutritional facts often, for example; it's kind of useful to see that a Chick-fil-A milk shake has 800 calories.

This is the most comprehensive book I have found on calorie counting, I have purchased several others but like it because rather than bore you with theory it predominantly is numbers you can use to create or maintain your own diet, I have been working on my weight since June on a healthy low calorie diet and this book has really helped me keep track of the amount of calories in foods well and change my way of life. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a no nonsense calorie counting book. I have had the previous edition and was glad to see the update, I would like to see a larger more comprehensive restaurant guide in the back though, and that is why I only gave it 4 stars instead of five.

Found this book being used at The Hills Health Ranch in BC Canada. Regula Wittmer, the spa director, suggested I purchase this book. I tell you. it is fantastic. If you want a good calorie counter, this is the book.

Part of a balanced weight loss regimin is watching what you eat and making sure you are getting enough fiber and protein. All so often we pick up foods because they are quick and easy and eat them mindlessly. I've been down that road a little too often in the last ten years and am now paying the price. This book is very handy and I keep it in my car for when I'm out shopping or eating out. I use in it conjunction with my food diary and it's very helpful. I'd say to buy the most updated version each year if you can...so many new foods to keep up with.
