5.0 out of 5 stars a great on the go guide!
I bought this handy little reference before my husband and I made a trip across country. We're normally health nuts, but on the road it becomes very difficult. The Calorie Counter For Dummies definitely helped us navigate the healthiest choices at the fast food and restaurant stops on our journey. It was fantastic to be able to make informed decisions about what to order...

3.0 out of 5 stars Misleading title
This book is mistitled, it should be "Calorie Counter for Fast Foods and Restaurants". It's great for that, but it's not a general calorie counter book. There are 400 pages for restaurant items, and 13 pages of general food calorie information.

2.0 out of 5 stars Book Cover Misleading, April 13, 2010

The book cover is misleading. Most of the book is dedicated to eating out at fast food restaurants. The cover should state it's a restaurant guide. I was looking for calories of individual foods. Since I don't eat at fast food places, this book will go into my yard sale box.

The Calorie Counter For Dummies definitely helped us navigate the healthiest choices at the fast food and restaurant stops on our journey. It was fantastic to be able to make informed decisions about what to order at places you don't correlate with eating healthy and there wasn't a place that we stopped that The Calorie Counter For Dummies didn't have info for! Best purchase I've made in a long time.

1.0 out of 5 stars misleading, July 16, 2010
This review is from: The Calorie Counter For Dummies (Paperback)
This book is misleading. it is mostly about restaurant food. The section that has food listed.. pears..banana's..pea's etc does not list the serving size. For instance..1 cup..or 1/4 cup or one ounce. I wasted my money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fast food counter, July 3, 2010

This book is not very useful for eating at home. The units for the counts are not uniform. Some cheeses are listed in ounces, and others in cups cubed. This makes measuring difficult. I suggest the next revision stick to ounces for everything. Kitchen scales are now affordable and accurate. It would take out a lot of guess work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource!, January 4, 2010

My 13-yr-old son and I are both Type 1 diabetics, and we often consult guides such as this one. We have used the Calorie King in the past, but this seems to have the same nutritional info for most chain restaurants and fast food places as well as the helpful tips included for eating out. I also appreciate the common foods guide in the back. Our family eats in more than out, but my son plays school sports and when the team bus stops at McDonalds, or Wendy's or other fast food establishment, I'm glad he'll have some sense of how many carbs he's eating so that he can give himself the appropriate insulin bolus.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor for Everyday use, March 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Calorie Counter For Dummies (Paperback)
Since this book spends over 90% on Restaurants and Fast-Food establishments, it is terrible and useless for everyday use. If I am counting calories the last thing I need to know is about Fast foods and restaurants!! Worst book purchase I have ever made. I'm throwing it out!

4.0 out of 5 stars Calorie Counter For Dummies, March 23, 2011

I love the fact that the Calorie Counter has so many restaurants listed in it, but the section on regular food that you purchase isn't as extensive as I would have hoped. It still is extremely useful, especially when I travel. And the size is great. Not a large book to have to pack! I also like that it includes the amount of sugar. So many books don't include sugar in their breakdown of food contents.

Book came in very good condition. It is very informative, it gives calorie information on food from many popular restaurants, as well as a listing of all foods. Well worth the $.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent carlorie counter, January 8, 2011

I have found "Calores for Dummies" to be a very helpful book in tracking calories as well as fat and carb grams. It has a large list of restaurant menu items as well as well as home-prepared dishes. If I have any complaint at all it is that I would like to see more listings in the "Common Food Guide."
