The CalorieKing Calorie, Fat & Carbohydrate Counter 2009
This is a really great book. I use it to keep track of mostly carbs for my Diabetes.
I have both the regular sized one which I carry with me when I travel and the large print one that I use at home. I find some books hard to find things in but but this book is easy to use. I have lots of other carb counting books that I have purchased over the years but this is the one I turn to most. It also is printed on really good quality paper, which is a consideration when you will be leafing through it constantly. I discovered this book by accident a few years back and have been a fan ever since.

I'm one of the few people in the world who don't eat out a lot. However, this book is a fantastic book if you do. It's got calorie, fats and carb counts for many many things including a section dedicated to fast food. I'm wishing I hadn't purchased this book and had gone with Corinne T. Netzer's "The Complete Book of Food Counts". This little book is a little over 300 pages where the Netzer book is over 700 and has an even more detailed account of foods. I have the Fourth Edition. I'm going to update.

This book has the same problem as many other calorie counting book. They all seems to assume that everybody only eats canned foods and fast foods. It is impossible to find information on simple basic fresh foods, the ingredients, if you will, in cooking!
One has to go through the pages and pages of fast food restaurants, frozen and packaged food to find calorie content for fresh vegetables.
I don't understand the principle behind it. Every can, jar and package has a label with nutritional information. Why do we need a book for that?!
Until I find a book that gives calories only for fresh foods or, at least, place them in separate chapter, I give up on buying so called calorie counters!
