Not specific enough in weights of food,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The CalorieKing Calorie, Fat, & Carbohydrate Counter 2012 (Paperback)
Too many fast foods and not enough individual products listed.Main problem is that many items do not have specific amounts like ounces or grams. Instead they are listed as generalities such as average, one, medium, etc. What is medium for one may be large for another person, etc. which will throw off nutrients big time when trying to be accurate. I use a kitchen diet scale and to me it is very important to have exact weights, so my counts of carbs and calories are exact. This book falls short in many instances. I would like to see a book listing exact weights in addition to the generalities so those of us who care, have the information available.

A Book You Can Count On,
This review is from: The CalorieKing Calorie, Fat, & Carbohydrate Counter 2012 (Paperback)
Absolutely the best all around calorie counter. Why? Because the book is small (fits in a purse easily), easy use, well laid out, and extremely complete- even has calorie counts for many major restaurants! A book you just can't beat for the price, I highly recommend it for anyone counting calories, fats or carbs. Also recommend The Sixty-Second Motivator for readers who have had difficulty sticking with a diet plan.

Very comprehensive book which covers a huge quantity of foods, restaurant items, and even international dishes. Type is small, but manageable; easy to carry so you can take it along with you. Invaluable to me for managing my carbs for my diabetes and I am glad it also includes calories, fats, sodium, etc. for overall diet health. Even has a website for items that may not be included in the book. Well worth the reasonable price. This was recommended by a dietician when I was hospitalized.

This review is from: The CalorieKing Calorie, Fat, & Carbohydrate Counter 2012 Larger Print Edition (Calorieking Calorie, Fat & Carbohydrate Counter (Larger Print Edition)) (Paperback)
My son was recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This means we have to count carbs. The hospital recommended The CalorieKing book for counting carbs, and it really is a great book. The original book is a small paperback size, with print to match. It's OK with my reading glasses, but I was overjoyed to find this larger print edition. It still isn't LARGE print, that is, not the LARGE print you'll see in a large-print novel. But it is LARGER print, and I really appreciate it. The actual size of this larger print edition is a little bigger than the regular CalorieKing edition, but it's still paperback book size. Easy to store in a purse or glove compartment or backpack. size Larger Print 7 1/4 " x 5 1/4 " size regular print 6 7/8 " x 4 1/4 " Both books are the same thickness. CalorieKing deserves it's reputation for thoroughness. The only reason you'd need updated editions is if you eat out a lot and have trouble estimating carbs in your restaurant food (and it can be difficult). Then the updated menus of the larger chains are welcome. But as far as grocery food, the apple and broccoli carb counts won't change from year to year, and packaged groceries will always have a label telling, among other things, how many carbs per serving. Very handy book.

This little book has been a fantastic help in my battle of the buldge. It fits in my purse or pocket to take along and has nearly everything in the way of food listed in it. I love that it has both common US and Canadian eatery's listed too. This is not a book written for just the US.I also find The Calorie King Food and Exercise Journal an easy to use companion book for keeping track of my daily eating and exercise. This is truly Calorie counting made easy!

No protein gram counts, but for figuring insulin dose for carb grams, and carb counts in general, this is THE book to have; it's small enough to put in a small purse, and has enough items that even if something isn't listed, there's something "close enough". If you're a diabetic, you know this book- nothing else to say :)

The Calorie Counter is a wonderful resource. I've lost 20 pounds in a little over a month since starting to count calories and track what I eat. I only wish it had better references to sodium since we are trying to stay under 1500 mg and finding it to be a major challenge. It's a handy book, and the restaurant section is also helpful.
