I was recently diagnosed with gestational diabetes which I did not have during my first pregnancy. I had no idea how much this condition can affect my unborn baby and my own body until this diagnoses came up. Because it can be pretty dangerous for both of us my OB sent me to a dietitian to begin working on bringing my blood glucose levels down to safer numbers. For some women this may mean diet and exercise changes, while others may require medication. At this point I am working on managing the condition through changes in my diet and adding an extra walk to the two I already take daily. This might sound easy enough but it really is not.

Adding in the extra walk has been helping a bit but watching my carb intake at meals and times of the day has been more of a challenge. Not everything is very well labeled and serving sizes can get confusing. My dietitian recommended that I purchase this guide because of its information AND size. It is a little big for a pants pocket and my purse is too small for it but not by much. It can easily fit in a backpack or briefcase and not crowd your important work or school related materials. It will also fit in most glvoe boxes for quick access at the drive-thru.

If you spend a lot of time away from home traveling or in your car this guide is great to have on hand. Let me give an example... I had to go out of town yesterday and the group I was with wanted to stop at a specific restaurant to eat before a meeting. While the menu did have a small section of 'lighter fare' meals that were marked with calorie, carbohydrate, sugars and other information items such as condiments and drinks were not labeled. I was able to find a suitable meal through the menu and this book helped me factor in whether I could have syrup or ketchup as well.

I love this guide! It seemed to have everything I wanted to eat listed. Unfortunately, I need to be able to keep track of my protein intake as well and that isn't included with this book. If you're looking for more than calories, fat and carb counts, this won't quite do it for you. If all you are counting are those three things, this is one of the best you can buy.

New to the world of diabetes, this book is just what the dietitian ordered, literally. Carbohydrates fill everything I like to eat, with this book I now know just how much. A very tool providing guidelines for a balanced and healthy in take of what I like the most, food. It's a winner.

THE CALORIEKING -- CALORIE, FAT & CARBOHYDRATE COUNTER

This book is so crammed full of information that it will be the only tool necessary for weight loss. However, it's not just for loosing weight -- it has info for people watching carbs, their blood pressure, sodium in-take, etc. It is just marvelous.

This nifty little book can fit into any size purse and is nice and thick, it has 302 pages. It has weight control tips, food facts on fast food and chain restaurants, how to decide what weight is good for you, and how to figure out how many calories needed for YOU personally to loose weight.

This book has it all and is easy to read. I have never come across a calorie counting book that carries every bit of information you would want or need and then some!

This is a must have for anyone who wants to start a healthy life style or needs any type of general information regarding nutrition. There are guides for counting cholesterol, fiber, sodium, iron, protein, so on and so forth. Check this out, you won't be sorry. And the price is right too!

Thanks!

Pam

This little book is packed with everything you need to know about any food on the planet and then some. Fresh foods, processed foods, restaurants, fast food, cafeteria food, fairs and carnivals, international restaurants, it's all there. It is well organized, colorful and very easy to read and to find what you are looking for. The main section has listings for calories, fat and carbohydrates, and there are other sections for diabetics, for sodium content, calcium, alcohol, and caffeine guides, fat and cholesterol guides, as well as fiber, protein and iron. All of this packed into a very easy to carry compact size. There are lots of color illustrations of foods for easy identification as well as healthy tips and tricks, humorous cartoons and interesting food facts. It makes for very interesting reading as well as an exceptionally well done reference manual. I give this book 5 plus stars!

I love this book and could not be without it. I was given the 2007 version by my dietician
and decided to purchase a more current book. I use it everyday to control my portions and count my carbs. I would recommend this book to anyone trying to lose weight or control their food intake.
