Beautiful, but easy to get scalded.,

This is a lovely tea kettle, and well made. However, it is easy to become burned by the steam due to the design of the thing. Best to wear a potholder while using it.

I've been collecting Calphalon pieces at blowout prices and I'd say that at the Friday-Sale price of about a movie ticket this kettle is worth the money. A few things are worth noting: 1) This kettle is a nice size compromise for tea for two to four people. It's not too heavy when full and the handle is well-positioned for good balance. 2) The construction is on the lightweight side, compared to the more expensive Calphalon kettles, consequently the lid makes a grating scratchy sound when you place it on the kettle. This can be annoying but will improve with wear. 3) If you let boiled hard water sit in this kettle you will get calcium deposits which are pretty tough to remove. This happens to all kettles, but it's more noticeable in this case because the kettle is dark gray in color. 4) The kettle does not whistle. For some this may be a plus or a minus. 5) However, this thing does look great on the stove, makes the place very homey and is much safer than boiling water in a sauce pan when making tea.

Ouch Ouch Ouch!,

Sure, it looks great on your cooktop. If you actually want to USE it though, this may not be the kettle for you. It is almost impossible not to burn yourself when you pick it up! If the steam that is pouring out of the coverless spout doesn't get you, you'll burn your hand when you lift up the kettle because there is nothing to protect your hand between the handle and the top of the pot. In addition, this kettle doesn't whistle, so it is definitely a poor choice for anyone who can't stand over it for ten minutes waiting for the water to boil.
