4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent kettle, with one omission
This is a very good looking kettle, with a matt, dark gray finish. The handle is very comfortable, and the kettle is well balanced when full of water. Even though it has a small "footprint", it comes to the boil very quickly.

The lid fits well and does not fall off when pouring. BUT, the lid has no hole for steam escape, and the spout enters the kettle half...

3.0 out of 5 stars Be CAREFUL when pouring - its H O T
i love the look and feel and size of this Calphalon 'Bee" Kettle, but it can be dangerous!!! - i have finally learned to always use a potholder when pouring my cup of morning hot water/coffee -- the steam comes right up and burns my hand..even with the cover ON.

This is a very good looking kettle, with a matt, dark gray finish. The handle is very comfortable, and the kettle is well balanced when full of water. Even though it has a small "footprint", it comes to the boil very quickly.

The lid fits well and does not fall off when pouring. BUT, the lid has no hole for steam escape, and the spout enters the kettle half way down the body of the kettle. This means that if the kettle is filled and the water boiled, one or more of three things happens: the steam pressure build up either blows boiling water out of the spout, or pops the lid off; or when pouring the water out, there's no way for air to get in to replace the water coming out, so air "gulps" in through the spout.

One other minor comment: the Bee is made of plastic, and looks like it may easily break if the lid is dropped.

5.0 out of 5 stars Faster heater, April 18, 2001

I absolutely love this teapot! It is beautiful and unique, and it heats water super fast. It doesn't have a whistle, but I don't find that a problem since I don't leave things unattended on the stove. Besides, this teapot heats the water so quickly who needs to stay away for long?

The feel to the handle is pleasant with its rubber covering and it is placed well back from any rising steam. The pot is well-balanced, substantial in weight- but not too heavy. The bee on top is very detailed and overall the style is different and elegant without the cartoonishness that alot of decorated kettles have. Its dull black finish doesn't show those splatters (that all things that sit on a stove get)as much as the shiny enameled pots.

All in all, I like this kettle and feel that it is worth the money. I am confident that it will be a part of my kitchen for my lifetime!

5.0 out of 5 stars Elegant and Ergonomic, February 9, 2010

I have had this tea kettle for over 10 years and not had a single problem with it. It looks great on the stovetop, heats quickly and pours easily. The handle is super comfortable rubber feeling (not sure what the material is :). I have never burned my hand when pouring because the handle is set far back. That is one of the main reasons I like this kettle and I have tried a lot of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this tea kettle, July 12, 2008
This review is from: Calphalon 2-Quart Anodized Aluminum Bee Kettle (Kitchen)
I have found that I have none of the problems with my kettle like other people do. I don't allow my kettle to heat up fast, it's always on low heat, and if I fill it up past the spout I leave the top off so my kettle doesn't get over pressurized, which may be why some peoples kettles are spraying. If there is no place for the steam to go what do you expect?? Also,I can pick it up by the handle without potholders. I have no problem with the handle getting hot, like I said before, I let it heat up slow and on a low heat. Most metals don't need to go on high heat. If you treat your cookware nicely, it will be nice to you. I love this kettle.

My husband purchased this great kettle for me as a Christmas gift. I just love it! The design is really different and fits into our ecclectic kitchen decor. Nice and light-it heats fast. So far no complaints. Lifetime warranty!

1.0 out of 5 stars No whistle!, January 17, 2001

I loved the different look of this tea kettle and was sold on its uniqueness. However, I soon came to find out that the lack of the whistle feature is important. When the water boils it is extremely quiet and not noticeable. I almost burned the house down!
