5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this now before they are sold out, October 5, 2001

This review is from: Calphalon Commercial Nonstick 10-Inch Omelet Pan (Kitchen)
This is an incredible bargain for a great piece of Calphalon cookware. A 10 or 12 inch omelet pan is essential to any kitchen, and non-stick is a great feature in such a pan. Calphalon Commercial non-stick is widely regarded as having one of the most durable non-stick finishes available, and the appearance and design of the pan are excellent, with very good weight and balance. The handle stays cool and is comfortable. You will also probably want an omelet pan with a stainless or aluminum interior, for better browning, but for eggs, stir-fry, and other items that don't need to be browned, this pan is perfect, and an unbeatable bargain at this price (retail for the exact same pan is over 3 times as much). Remember to hand wash and use non-metal utensils.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Professional II, an unbelievable price..., October 15, 2001
By
This review is from: Calphalon Commercial Nonstick 10-Inch Omelet Pan (Kitchen)
Seriously, you will not find a better price than this special offer from Amazon. Having used the Commercial Nonstick 10-inch pan, I've found that it has a more advanced nonstick surface than the Professional Nonstick II (the Calphalon web site actually discusses this -- that's why Commercial Nonstick has a higher MSRP).

The "Cool V" handles generally stay pretty cool, for a while at least. It's fairly easy to balance the pan, but I've felt better.
Underneath, it's that same beautiful matte Calphalon finish, and the pan has that wonderful, high-performance ability of Calphalon cookware to heat up and cool down extremely quickly. If you have never used Calphalon or anodized aluminum before, you will find the temperature control is just amazing. You'll be frying eggs inside of a minute, instead of waiting several minutes for the pan to heat up...And if it starts to burn, turn down the heat and it cools in a snap.

The only note I would have is that the 10-inch version is actually significantly smaller than the 12-inch. This is for two-person omelettes, not four, if you know what I mean. And the 12-incher is not exactly cheap. But hey, this is meant to whet your appetite...and it succeeds brilliantly.

Also note -- Calphalon products must be hand-washed, but that is not a big deal in this case due to the nonstick coating.

Bottom line: At these prices, this would be a great stocking-stuffer for Christmas!

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME PAN!! GREAT DEAL!!!, November 13, 2001

This review is from: Calphalon Commercial Nonstick 10-Inch Omelet Pan (Kitchen)
This pan retails for (dollar amount). This is one great bargain on an excellent pan.

This is the best pan I've ever owned, even better than some non-nonstick pans. They way the nonstick coating is adhered in some new fangled way that makes this pan durable, heats evenly, nonstick, and easy to clean. I have an 8 inch Calphalon professional nonstick that is not nearly as nice as the 10 inch Commercial. If you are wary of nonstick pans, this is the best one to get. I hated nonstick until this pan.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for omelette lovers, October 18, 2001

This review is from: Calphalon Commercial Nonstick 10-Inch Omelet Pan (Kitchen)
This is a fabulous omelette pan at a fantastic price. It is large enough to comfortably handle 2- or 3-egg omelettes, and the nonstick coating makes butter almost unnecessary (but it still adds the perfect flavor). The pan heats almost instantly, thanks to its aluminum core, and the handle stays cool no matter how hot the pan gets.

I do have to say that if you are looking for an all-purpose skillet, this might not be it. As is the case with all non-stick cookware, the coating makes it nearly impossible to brown foods properly. While this is perfect for making omelettes or light things that don't require browning, I wouldn't pan sear a steak or saute mushrooms in this pan. For that one wants steel or anodized aluminum without the non-stick coating. This is definitely a specialty item, one that fills a certain niche in one's cooking repertoire; but it does the job wonderfully. And for this price I highly recommend picking one up while they last.

4.0 out of 5 stars Versitile, well made, sturdy, and works great, October 26, 2001
By
This review is from: Calphalon Commercial Nonstick 10-Inch Omelet Pan (Kitchen)
This pan is very well made. The sides and particularly the bottom are very thick aluminum, which serves to make it take a bit longer to warm up to full temperature, but it holds the heat well and evenly and does react fairly fast to temperature changes.
The non-stick coating is absolutely non-stick. I've fried many eggs with no oil whatsoever and it's a snap.
At anything but very high heat, the handle remains cool to touch, which is very nice after having had to deal with the usual handles that become as hot as branding irons in a short time. The polished stainless of the handle on this model is a bit more slippery than the pebbled surface of some other handles, but it is VERY good looking, particularly contrasted with the matte grey finish of the exterior.

The only maddening negative so far is that shortly after getting the pan, I let a drop of bacon fat run down the outside while pouring from the pan. This has left a visible darkened stain on the outside of the pot that will NOT come off. I've tried every cleaning method they recommended, including soft scrub with lemon, comet cleanser, scotch-brite pads, Dobie nylon covered sponge, and regular dish soap, and though it faded a bit, it is still aparent. This has happend a couple times since, and those stains have come out a bit better, so perhaps this effect happens to a worse degree before the pan has been heated several times. Nevertheless, I am now VERY careful not to get a speck of oil on the outer surface and must make sure to have something to wipe the lip when pouring oils from the pan before tipping the pan back up.
I'm not aware if this staining is just with animal fat, or with any type of oil, but be forewarned that oil on the outside of this pan will likely be there forever in the form of a dim stain.
The pan is also heavy for it's size, though I consider that an advantage and appreciate it. This may be a negative factor to those with less arm or hand strength. It will take a lot to hold this by the handle for more than a minute or so.
After working with this pan, I find that I would have preferred the 12" size, but this size will fit a medium sized porterhouse steak, a couple eggs, or about 5 strips of bacon. (though they lay against the sides initially, the sides transmit heat so well, that it cooks food there as well)
But at this fantastic price, you can't go wrong.

Bottom line: A very good, well made, great performing pan at a bargain price.

This is a very good pan for what it is designed for which is cooking eggs/omlettes or anything you don't want to stick. My wife and I have been purchasing any Calphalon pot/pan that show up with a good price. We now have 6 pieces with a minimim investment and maximum usage and enjoyment. Even if all you do is fry eggs this is a tremendous deal. Buy it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Omlette Pan, November 28, 2001

I'm the proud owner of reasonably complete collection of 11 pieces (not counting lids) of the Commercial Nonstick line. Having owned and used the competitive products (Circulon, Analon, Tefal, etc...) this is by far the best performing in terms of heat distribution and even cooking to the edges. I have one Commercial Anodized omlette pan that influenced me to try the Commercial Nonstick series. These are the best nonstick pans you can buy. And for most of us who don't cook for a living, nonstick is the way to go. $(...) is an incredible deal for a 10" omlette pan. At this price, start your collection NOW!

Incredible bargain for this piece. This is a quality piece of Calphalon. Nice heavy pan with a great finish. I cant say enough about this pan. I highly recommend purchasing one as they become available. I was fortunate enough to purchase two on a Friday sale. . . . If you can get it, do so. The only fault is that the handle is somewhat hard to get a good hold of when the pan is filled, and gets slippery when greasy or wet. I strongly recommend this one (for the price).

4.0 out of 5 stars works great, June 28, 2006

I really like this pan and appreciate all the reviews amazon customers have taken the time to submit. I can't add much that hasn't already been said - it's has a nice solid feel, the nonstick works great, heats evenly, and the handle doesn't get hot. My husband even put it in the dishwasher this week and it still works great. Only two problems, the three rivets that hold the handle to the pan are not nonstick and are hard to clean and within two days of purchasing, somehow a small piece to the nonstick was scratched even though I was (at least I thought I was) being careful.

Can't go wrong with a Caphalon pan. I am a amature cook, but my wife is professionally trained, and I value her opinion on cookware. We won't buy anything else now. It is so worth the money to not have to replace a pan every few years, plus the non-stick finish is the slickest of any I have ever used.
