5.0 out of 5 stars Great knife for smaller hands., April 12, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Calphalon Contemporary 6-Inch Chef's Knife (Kitchen)
While looking at cutlery for a wedding present a couple months ago I stumbled on Calphalon's new line. Being cheap by nature I was intrigued by their prices on chef's knives. This led me to get myself one of their 8" models. It is a great knife with only one drawback - it's almost too big for my small handed wife. Although it almost killed me to pay more for a smaller knife I recently purchased a six inch version. This knife we both love. Fit, finish, and balance all would make you swear that this is a high grade tool. Although priced nearer the cheapened up versions of Chicago Cutlery found in the Marts this is a knife that feels like it is a high grade piece. On the downside the knife is not German or American made but is another Chinese product. Unlike a lot of stuff from over there this time they got it right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Knife, January 3, 2012

The knife appears to be of high quality steel. The design is very balanced and is the perfect size for many uses when an 8 or 10 in. knife would be too big.

5.0 out of 5 stars Calphalon 6" Chef's, December 12, 2011
This review is from: Calphalon Contemporary 6-Inch Chef's Knife (Kitchen)
A most excellent knife-- the right size, the right heft and easy to keep sharp! Also recommend the 8" Chef's and the steel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Knife, July 3, 2011

This is a super knife. Sharp as the dickens, it keeps sharpness for some length of time without sharpening. The knife has good weight, nice feel while using. I like the beefy non-slip handle. For me, a 6 inch chef's knife is just right for doing most food prep jobs. I find a longer bladed knife too unwieldy.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOW THIS IS A KNIFE!!, June 25, 2010

I've used a LOT of knives but this one is, hands down, the BEST! So much so, in fact, that I simply could not leave it in my wife's friend's house we were renting where I originally found it - I had to steal it (with an "a"...) from the house when ours was ready to move in. It's OK, though, because I eventually told her plus she was the realtor for our house and she got the big commission. But back to the knife: it stays so sharp with just a couple of occasional pulls on the steel (with an "e"...) that sometimes I show it off to people who visit! It's just uncanny how a knife can get so flippin' sharp! At $30 new, I think it's the best value out there. It's got super feel and balance. I agree with all the other reviews: treat this knife like it deserves and NEVER put it through the d/w, no matter how tired you are after a big dinner party. Just BE CAREFUL: this baby is SO sharp, if you're not careful, it'll cut you and you'll never feel it! It makes for a great gift b/c people will think of you every time they enjoy using it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great knife for small hands or small jobs!, August 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Calphalon Contemporary 6-Inch Chef's Knife (Kitchen)
Had this knife for almost 3 years now. I love it. I have small hands, so the 8 inch knife was just too much knife for me. This is perfect. My husband uses the 8inch and I use the 6 inch. It's not so great when trying to cut something large and thick. But I use it daily and am thrilled with the quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars love this knife, April 4, 2009

I paid $25 for this puppy and I really like the weight and feel. It still cuts well but (maybe it's me) there are tons of nicks in the blade that I can't account for. It certainly wasn't abused and doesn't go in the dishwasher or anything. I'm buying an accusharp grinder anyway to try to improve the sharpness of my kitchen knives. Overall decent purchase for a quality product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love these knives! But NEVER put in dishwasher!, July 15, 2006
This review is from: Calphalon Contemporary 6-Inch Chef's Knife (Kitchen)
Well that pretty much sums it up. Great knife, good balance and feel. Keeps an edge most of the time. But never never never put it in your dishwasher. This purchase was to replace my previous knife which went through the dishwasher routinely. Then one day, we noticed the handle was warping and had hairline cracks all around the tang area. So lesson learned. And the warranty is only good if you don't use the dishwasher. Enough said.
