Wow is all I can say. I was moving and needed to buy some new kitchen knives. My old roommate had a very expensive Greman knife set that kind of spoiled me. I read the reviews for this set, and seeing that it was in my price range, I decided to take a chance. These are the best knives I've every used. I'll admit I haven't used a wide number of high end knives, but I love these. They are strong, sharp, well balanced and hold an edge like nobodies business. After 8 months they are going strong and I've expanded on this collection with the bread knife and the shinto. Do yourself a favor and get these knives.

Picked up this set for $79 at Amazon and did not expect too much. However this is not a cheap set of knifes. They are real sharp, solidly build and slice with professional authority. I had never known that a Chef's knife could slice vegetables so fast! If you do not want to spend $$$ on German steel (China made anyway, just like this set) and do not want a cheap knife set that is a waste of money after all, then consider this set. I picked up this knife set around 6 months ago when upgrading from my single decent Asian half cleaver and cheap college era chef's knife and am extremely pleased with the quality of the set considering the cost. These are well-made, forged blades with a nice weight to them, not the flimsy stamped bargain knives that you'd find at the same price point from other manufacturers. I cook almost all of my meals at home, and these knives (especially the perpetually in-use chef's knife) make the whole cooking experience a lot more enjoyable.

The handles are smooth with a clean finish, and the blades are heavy steel that doesn't flex or bend in use. The knives do need to be sharpened periodically, but they hold their sharpness very well.

This is a great buy if you want a set of quality forged knives but aren't quite able to swallow the price tag of Wustof or Henckels at this time (or ever). I looked at some of the European knives before, but after receiving the Calphalons, I doubt that I will bother to upgrade. These look great, have a fantastic feel, and are more than adequate for the needs of most everyday cooks.

After using these knives for the past 7 months I am very satisfied. The Chef's knife in particular is perfectly balanced, still stain free and without any chips or dents depsite daily use.

The only thing really missing from this set is the bread knife which I recommend getting seperatly, it is worth the price and is equally well made.

It may say Calphalon, but the knives say China.

I have taken care of these knives really well and STILL I see rust on some of the knives....not the brand I was really hoping for but they do work really well if you keep them sharp.

excellent knife set best i have ever owned i bought the small set to see if i liked it i am adding peices and all i need now is the carving fork great set of cutlery !!!

These feel very good in the hand. The set has the perfect number of items to have on the counter top for almost all my usual, and some extraordinary, food preparation needs.

I was expecting calphalon quality, but these knives just don't feel like they are quality knives.
