This review is from: Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 12-Inch Covered Omelet Pan (Kitchen)
I've used Calphalon's non-stick cookware since they first introduced it with the Professional and Commercial lines (since discontinued), so I was very interested to see how their new products worked out for me. This one, Calphalon Contemporary, falls in the middle of their current non-stick lineup.

Three things struck me as different right away. One was the inclusion of a tempered glass lid, a nice touch, and not usual on an omelet pan. The second was that the pan was a lot lighter than previous models. This is mostly bad, since with the highly heat-conductive metal they use, hot spots develop and things cook too rapidly. Conversely, as is the case with all thinner pans, the heated pan cools down too much when cold ingredients are added. Finally, the pan is notably deeper than most omelet pans, more similar to a chef's pan, which I found enjoyable since I don't have to be as careful to not slop my ingredients onto the stove-top.

For the promotional price this item is being offered currently, it's a decent pan if you watch out for hot spots. Use it for things like stir-fries where its high edges are handy. But it's too light to be ideal for searing, and too thin to be ideal for delicate sauces. So for anything close to list price (which would have made me grant it 3 stars instead of 4), spring for Calphalon One or something else more durable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Pan with Lid, Great Price., January 19, 2006

Great Pan, Great Price.
I can't find anything wrong with this pan, or the 10inch Contemporary Omelet pan I have.
My other Cookware is Calphalon Commercial (two simply)

This Pan is deeper then most 12inch omelet pan's , which I find this makes this more useful then just for Omelets.
I have fried Potatoes in this.
I have sauted Chicken breasts, Hamburger meat, It can be used for pancakes, although I use the Calphalon double Griddle.
Great for the Large Omelets with Veggies, or just sauteing anything...
For me this has become a all around pan, and I do have every size Calphalon makes, I think!
Don't forget this can also go into the Oven, and cooks very even.

I have used this pan for everything for a couple of months, and I do NOT find that it has warped, or peeled , nothing wrong with this Pan, it still looks like new.
Also I have NEVER had any problems with my Calphalon.

It has a little stright edge, 1/4inch from the top. I think its there so you do not overfull this, or its for pouring!
It also makes it easy for poreing food out of the pan.
Everything slides out very smooth.

I find this is to be as heavy as my Calphalon Commercial cookware. Are some people wieghing these pans? I can't tell what Pan,Pot is heavier then the next! But the Glass lid is heavy.
When useing the lid , cause its glass you can see what is going on under the lid.
Most Omelet pans do not have lids.
Also I notice that Most, of Calphalons Pan lids fit on each other, no matter what the size!

I like this Handle much better then the Calphalon Commercial, (my only complaint about the commercial)Cause this handle is fatter and rounder, (more like the Calphalon One) which makes it easier to hold on too, as I have thin hands.

This Pan is a 3 ply just like the Commercial.
Hand wash it, its just so easy.
My Pan is made in Toledo Ohio Usa, Not China, as some are made from.

I bought two of these Pans for $34.99.
If your buying this pan for a gift, keep in mind , that it does not come in a Calphalon Box, it came in a Amazon box, wraped with a cardboard Calphalon around it, which said something about this being a special.
If you look more into this website you will find this exact Pan with Lid for $99.99!!...
I even called Bed bath & beyond about this, and they are carrying both of the pans also, but could not figure it out either...Just told me, that most of there employes are grabing up these pans for the price of $39.99..

One time I had a problem with a big Calphalon defuser I bought at William Sonoma. I did not have to wait long to talk to customer service.
They told me they would send me out another one (cost me almost $30.00) I offered to give them my Credit card, they said NO, just keep it or return it to W.S.
They were the best Co. I have ever talked to, also so very nice. Not rude like Cuisinart!

I would buy this Pan again in a heart Beat..for this price you might beable to buy a pan at walmart, that will peel, not cook even, light wieght, and maybe last you one year..Not with Calphalon, this is garented for life if you do not abuse it.

Great Pan, Great Price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Pan Ever!!!, November 24, 2005
This review is from: Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 12-Inch Covered Omelet Pan (Kitchen)
Wow, what a great pan...I know a lot of people think that this is a bad pan just because you can't shove it in the dishwasher, but I love cooking with it so much I actually look forward to hand washing it. The instructions to keep it in good shape are very common sense (don't put directly into fridge from hot stove, etc) and if people have had problems with this pan, it's probably because they aren't following the directions. It cooks very evenly and doesn't burn anything and the seal with the lid is so tight that you could easily steam vegetables. Just an awesome pan, can't wait to get the rest of the set that I'm registered for!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a family of five, November 8, 2005
This review is from: Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 12-Inch Covered Omelet Pan (Kitchen)
What a great piece of cookware. I got it today, used it tonight, love it. I was able to brown an entire cut-up chicken and finish it off in the oven. Very easy to use and not as heavy as I expected, which is nice when you are taking out of the oven.

Up until today, I've used 10" skillets. I can already see the difference and I couldn't be more pleased. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Pan, but already warped, November 5, 2005
This review is from: Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 12-Inch Covered Omelet Pan (Kitchen)
Great pan for the first few weeks, but now it appears to be a little warped and does not sit flat on my stove. Will be going back to try a new one. Non-stick is awesome, cooking omelets is amazingly easy.

Since we own a few other Calphalon cookware products, and are
very satisfied with them, it was an easy choice to select
Calphalon to replace a frying pan. The new Calphalon pan not
only is easier to cook with, it's much nicer to look at. We no
longer put it away after use. Instead we're proud to have it
adorn the cook top.

I mean, it's ginormous. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing depends on your needs, of course. I can see how it will be helpful for cooking for the troops-- but right now it doesn't really even fit on my small apartment stove.

When I'm in a bigger kitchen/house (soon), it will be much more handy. I do wish it had a balance handle on the opposite side, though, because this sucker is heavy even when empty (much less when it's full of hot food).

I received this about a week ago, and was very surprised at the quality. The glass lid is a plus and fits well. I have used it twice and it is a dream. Cooks evenly and nothing sticks making it so easy to clean. With this pan there was no pre-greasing, only had to wash it before use. I also own a Calphalon grill that I love for pancakes, hash browns, scrambled eggs, and grilled cheese sandwiches. Don't bother with those cheap non-stick pans...I haved owned them and they do good to last even a year. You get what you pay for and Calphalon is the way to go. Wow....Amazon is super super fast on shipments!!!

This review is from: Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 12-Inch Covered Omelet Pan (Kitchen)
I purchased this item to replace a similar size pan that had just worn out (another brand). After using this pan I have replaced all of my other pans with Calphalon. The heat distribution and retention is perfect. I have a smooth top range and the cookware sits absolutely flat on the cook surface. My microwave wife even commented on how nice this pan was to use. Nice to find a product made in the U.S.A.!

1.0 out of 5 stars Warps Immediately, February 27, 2006

I have used this product less than 20 times and it is now warped and of little use on an electric range. I became paranoid when I read the stated limitations on heat settings, and thereafter I never preheated past med, and never cooked over med-hi, but it is still warped.
I find it likely that many of the happy customers have warped pans and don't notice because they have gas ranges. Yesterday I was trying to cook 2 eggs and didn't understand why they were taking too long to cook, and then I grabbed the handle and tilted it around, and realized that I was not getting g contact with the electric heating element, except for a small area.
I will try to return this to Calphalon for replacement, but really do not think that this is the pan for electric range users. I have a Teflon pan, with a really heavy bottom, that I thought I was going to replace with the calphalon, but that is not likely now. The bottom of this pan is way too thin. It is what you would expect from a 10 dollar 12" Teflon pan.
P.S. It was 30 dollars when I bought it, and it wasn't sold as an "omelet pan", so lower your expectations. Also, I've bought hundreds of amazon items and unless I'm really unhappy I do not comment. O.K., maybe it is as good as a 20 dollar teflon pan.
