Product Description

Product Description

How do Calphalon commercial roasters ensure superb results? They’re made of heavy-gauge aluminum, the ideal material for consistent heat conduction. They feature low sides, so air circulates freely around your roast and moisture evaporates quickly. They stay level, even after years of high heat exposure, and they’re accompanied by our U-shaped nonstick roasting rack, turkey lifters, and injection baster! If you’ve never tried slow-roasted foods, now’s the time to take the time.

Amazon.com

Prepare a hassle-free roast turkey with this Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick roaster, which offers convenience and quality that disposable aluminum pans can't match. Constructed of heavy-gauge hard-anodized aluminum, the pan heats evenly and consistently while in the oven, delivering a golden brown bird on the outside that tastes moist and juicy on the inside. The pan's nonstick surface ensures that the turkey will release cleanly, making it easy to collect juices and bits for gravy. The roaster includes a nonstick rack--which allows heat to circulate underneath the turkey--as well as a bulb baster with an injector tip and two stainless-steel turkey lifters. When it's time to remove the bird from the oven, simply lift the rack out of the roasting pan, then use the lifters to move the turkey to the serving platter. The pan measures 16 by 4 by 13 inches (W x H x D) and is oven-safe to 450 degrees F. It also carries a lifetime warranty against defects. --Rivers Janssen

Most of my cook- and bakeware is of the hard-anodized Calphalon ilk. That said, I will admit that the Calphalon was not my first choice for a roasting pan. I will also admit that my first choice was the shiny, uptown All-Clad Roti. And I will even be so brazen as to admit that the Roti was my first choice because (a) it is shiny, (b) it is All-Clad, and (c) I am not immune to the whole cache of All-Clad and that whole "kitchen-bling" thing that it has going on. But then I realized that for the cost of the Roti, I could get the Calphalon, a 25 pound turkey, two bags of cranberries, a bottle of wine, and a vintage cookie jar that I have had my eye on.

This pan, like all my stove-tops items, fared amazingly well. The handles are very sturdy. At first, I was a little perturbed by the fact that the handles tilt in (i.e., over the interior of the pan, rather than sticking out), but then I quickly realized that this was handy for many reasons. I thought the pan was easier to lift than other similar-size roasters, even when fully loaded with a 25-pound turkey. Also, I would imagine that for one with an oven less cavernous than mine, having the handles angle in would be more space-economical.

I also liked the shape and depth of the pan. Don't think that a roasting pan of this size is something that you bring out only with the Thanksgiving cornucorpia. You can use it for everyday things like casseroles, broasted potatoes, and cobblers. I have used it quite a bit as the "bain" for a bain-marie.

It also is very easy to clean, even in the aftermath of mammoth turkey.

Drawbacks: I gave it four rather than five stars because while this is a "better" pan, it is arguable that it is not the "best.

This item was a great value after free shipping and promotional discounts. I am no gourmet chef, but this worked quite well with my stuffed chicken.

I used the pan for Thanksgiving and then again for Christmas. I loved it and it did very well for gravy. I was concerned since I had a Calphalon sauté pan that is terrible... but I am very happy with this pan for roasts and turkeys. Next I will try lasagna in it.

This is a great pan and the accessories are also great. The handles really make it possible to lift the pan without getting burned or having to fear dropping it. And the injector baster is great--it really make the bird taste great!

Excellent product. I'm getting one for my sister, who's a professional cook.

I bought this at an outlet mall right before Christmas because I need another roasting pan in addition to my much loved electric roaster. I paid around $60 for this at a discounted price.
There were a few reasons I chose this particular pan over cheaper ones such as my grandmother's favorite porceleinized Graniteware. I wanted a pan with an inverted rack that could accommodate a 20 lb pound turkey. The pan also needed to have a darker interior which results in a browner bird that has a mahogany colored crisp skin. I also needed a dark interior to encourage dark droppings at the pan's bottom to make a flavorful gravy. This set included an injector baster and two large turkey lifters, offered a non stick interior, and as the manufacturer touted a non stick rack.
This time around I decided to cook the turkey in a paper bag. I liberally oiled the bag's entire surface area, cleaned and dried the bird, stuffed it, and sewed the bird's cavity shut. I had soaked a cheesecloth in clarified melted butter with white wine, shoved the whole shebang in the oiled bag, tied the bag tightly shut, and placed it on the rack in. 325 degree oven for several hours. The bird turned out looking amazingly good.
As for the pan, it was relatively easy to clean. I soaked it in hot soapy water for about 30 minutes. The interior washed up quickly with minimal effort. The roasting rack was trickier. Pieces of the paper bag fused to the rack so it isn't as non stick as was promised though after soaking it like the pan, it was easily and thoroughly cleaned. As for the bonus accessories, I did not use the baster but the turkey lifters turned out to be extremely convenient.

The pan is awesome. Maybe it could be a bit heavier, but for the price it can't be beat. The rack and pan have held up well over the years. The non-stick surface hasn't scratched at all, and the rack cleans up perfectly every time it's used. it fits large roasts 10LB+ and it fits tons of pasta for lasagna or baked ziti.

The utensils are horrible though. The Baster/Injector leaks so I threw it out and got a new one from elsewhere. The lifters are so-so.

First time I used this, the rack coating melted under the meat. The roaster itself seems to be fine, but the coating on the rack melted....not too happy about that! Haven't used the lifters or the baster/injector yet. and the seller is going to get a new rack for me.
