5.0 out of 5 stars Its beauty is more than skin deep
A friend says the stainless contemporary pots belong in MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) and I agree: absolutely beautiful. On top of that, it performs wonderfully. 1.0 out of 5 stars Not great
Not sure why this is getting such great reviews. The product is cheap with a tiny handle and think base.

A friend says the stainless contemporary pots belong in MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) and I agree: absolutely beautiful. On top of that, it performs wonderfully. Heat distribution and retention is just as good as the cast iron dutch oven I can no longer use on my glass-top range. This is a great size for soups and stews and a big "mess" of Southern-style green beans can simmer hour after hour with little moisture loss, thus no sticking. I intend to purchase more of this line.

5.0 out of 5 stars No more stovetop wobbling, February 28, 2008
This review is from: Calphalon Contemporary Stainless 6-1/2-Quart Soup Pot with Glass Lid (Kitchen)
I bought this pot to replace an old copper-bottomed stainless steel soup pot that wobbled violently every time I boiled water in it on our new ceramic stovetop. I knew from the instructions that came with the appliance that some of my cooking utensils needed to be replaced, but I couldn't find what I needed in local stores at a reasonable price. I chose this pot because: (1)it was exactly the size I wanted; (2) the weight of the pot seemed to be sufficient that it would work well on my new stovetop; (3) it was within budget, though at the upper end of it; and (4)it had some good reviews already. Now that I've used it (once)I can state that it performs beautifully on a ceramic surface, it is heavy enough but not too heavy, and it is good-looking, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent water bath for flan, November 23, 2007
This review is from: Calphalon Contemporary Stainless 6-1/2-Quart Soup Pot with Glass Lid (Kitchen)
This size, shape and depth made the souppot a better water bath for a flan in a casserole dish than shallower alternatives. I have also made beef stock from oxtail in this as it is large enough to accommodate larger pieces. I rub baking soda all over it to get all the tallow out of it.

I also own the contemporary nonstick version of this pan. I like them both. I use this one when I need a fond such as searing meat for a stew or when I start with a saute of onions. Stainless works best for these jobs. The pan is very attractive and easy to clean and maintain. I do not put it in the dishwasher although Calphalon says that you can. I do not want to risk the beautiful finish. The size is big enough to use as a dutch oven and it will hold a double batch of spaghetti sauce and meatballs. Very versatile pan.

5.0 out of 5 stars good for roasting chickens as well as steaming rice, November 28, 2010
This review is from: Calphalon Contemporary Stainless 6-1/2-Quart Soup Pot with Glass Lid (Kitchen)
I have a perfect steamer tray from a rarely used Innova pressure cooker that I use to keep chicken from touching cooking juices and for steaming dumplings or a bowl of rice in this excellent sized pot. I love this pot. It saves me from buying a rice cooker, a Thanksgiving only roaster and many other things. It is no nonsense, high heat-able, dishwasher safe, oven safe - I even use the glass lid to make roasting chicken juicier (400 degree max for the lid and other glassware.) By adding too much water to a glass bowl of brown rice, I also make a quasi-congee comfort food dish with leftover beef and kosher salt. This pot is an unpraised gem.

I'm so glad I got this pot. I'ts not too heavy, and not too big or small. Sort of a wide mouth. Perfect for pasta.
