5.0 out of 5 stars Everyday, Everything Pan
I purchased this pan because of the tempting sale price. I have found that I reach for it again and again. It is a great size for two people, for preparing most everything. Very convenient. Good heating........easy cleanup.

3.0 out of 5 stars Size Debate
The bottom of this pan nicely covers the 8 inch burner on my ceramic stove top. It measures 1 7/8 inches from the inside bottom to the brim. It holds a maximum of 8 cups of water. It was adequate to cook a package of "Thai Kitchen Pad Thai for Two"--but not to stir vigorously. This is a pretty little pan that cleans up nicely. Just don't expect to cook for a family with...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great pan, but I wish the handles stayed cool longer, November 28, 2006
This review is from: Calphalon Contemporary Stainless Special-Value 10-Inch Everyday Pan with Glass Lid (Kitchen)
This 10-inch pan is a very nice size for a small family. It's nice not to have to fit yet another long handle into my pan cabinet. The stainless cleans up easily, and is dishwasher safe. The tri-ply technology (aluminum inside, going up the sides) really does seem to help. I've found this pan better than the non-stick coating pans for not sticking, as long as you (1) let food warm to room temperature for 10 to 20 minutes or by warming in water, and (2) pre-heat the pan according to the manufacturor's directions. My only complaint is that the handles get hot very quickly, and they are small enough that pot-holders are awkward. Good for frying and baking a small roast. You'll want a traditional frying pan with long handle to complement this pan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected., June 30, 2006

In response to the review that stated this pan is too small for one - that is simply not the case. This pan is actually much deeper and larger than I was expecting! It can easily hold 3 or 4 medium sized chicken breasts with vegetables in the same pan. It's crafted very well, and the lid doesn't jiggle at all. I LOVE this piece, I can see myself using it several times a day!

Great pan to cook a lot of different things in. I am ordering another one to have handy when I'm already using the first. I usually use it to cook morning eggs, but you could make stewed chicken or a nice one pot dinner for 2 or 3, a head of cabbage, stir fry, whatever. It's not small, in my opinion. It's about the diameter of a medium sized frying pan, but about twice as deep, comes in handy.

I've found the secret to no sticking is to oil the bottom (I put in a little olive oil, then wipe with paper towel to spread it around the bottom so that I'm using very little), heat the pan on low to medium low so that it's hot when you add food. My eggs don't stick at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!, February 16, 2006

This is my first venture into the Calphalon stainless line, though I've been a devoted Calphalon user ever since my Le Crueset got too heavy for me. I wanted a stovetop to table pan, and this one is just perfect! It cooks beautifully, goes to the table with style and cleans like a dream. For those of us with lighter appetites, it is plenty big enough for two, even producing two night's worth of Coq a Vin for my husband and I on its maiden voyage this week. I love it, and am coming back for more in this line.

I love the whole Calphalon Contemprary Stainless line. I bought one awhile back and actually got this one off amazon for a friend. The quality beats everything I've tried in the past.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handles Get Hot, October 2, 2006

First, I love Contemporary Stainless Calphalon. I have this entire 10-piece set plus a griddle and two additional pots. The quality is not in question. This pan is a bit small, but is good for side dishes.

When I first ordered the piece, I thought that it looked different somehow, but couldn't put my finger on it. Well, it's the handles! This almost-skillet has "pot handles". So what's wrong with that? They get hot. I need potholders to remove this from my gas cooktop.

Why do large pots have "pot handles"? Because they are heavy; you need the handles to lift them with both hands.

Why do smaller pots and skillets have "skillet handles"? 1) You can lift them with one hand, so "pot handles" aren't required and 2) so that the handle is far enough away from the heat source that you don't burn your hand.

This pot/skillet is an anomaly - it's a skillet with "pot handles". In any case, it cooks very well as do all the Calphalon products I've purchased. It's also very chic to look at. Just thought I'd throw in my two cents.

I use this this pan for desserts, meat dishes, anything. It is just great for oven/freezer to table. When I find a pan I like to cook with, I never stop raving about it! Buy it, you will love it.

3.0 out of 5 stars doesn't get used everyday..., May 23, 2007

it's lovely to look at when it's new, and compared to non-stick and/or cheapies, it's a lot safer & cooks so much better and evenly. the lid is nice and fits snugly. you will, however, have to scrub this baby all the time. the underneath discolored a bit [right away] from use too. (i'm sure barkeeper's friend would take care of that.)

as far as the size of the pan, i thought it was a really practical size if only cooking for 2 people; for 3-4 it's definitely too small.

UPDATE: after purchasing this, i acquired a few le creuset pieces. i prefered the le creuset so much to this, that i sold this pan on ebay. if you like this pan, but don't like the upkeep, i would recommend trying the le creuset buffet casseroles. they do make a small one, similar to this size and they make 2 larger sized ones as well. because they are enameled cast iron they clean up really easily.
