4.0 out of 5 stars Nice and big, good heat tolerance, moderate build/design quality
This is a good sized ladle that won't scratch those expensive pots. It should have no problem fitting in your kitchen drawers. Its easy to clean, although, heavy abrasive pads will leave deep gouges in the ladle. No big deal there.

The complaint I have is, the gray part of the handle pops out. For example, you are washing it and give it a good rub to clean...

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful chemical stench
I bought this ladle a couple of months ago. Whenever it gets a bit hot -- like, y'know, when I put it in a pot of soup -- a prominent and extremely toxic-smelling odor emanates from the heated bits. I thought it might go away after a few uses, but no. Into the recycling bin it goes.

For example, you are washing it and give it a good rub to clean the spoon part... well, almost everytime I doing that, the gray part towards the spoon area will pop-up (not completely off the handle, but pops-up). I stop and just pop it back in place.

With that flaw, I worry that food and liquids will get trapped in there, building bacteria and nasty stuff. I contemplate removing the entire gray part to clean it every now and then, but worry that if I take it off, I won't be able to put it back.

Perhaps mine is defective, but, I've missed the boat on returning the product, so, I will keep it until it breaks completely or I get tired of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great kitchen products, January 2, 2009

We love this line of Calphalon products because of their durability and design. The handle is very comfortable and has a good 'cushion' grip. This cushion-grip, however, causes the handle to be wider than most other utensils, which may cause problems if you're trying to fit them all in your current container on your kitchen counter. Also, don't be deceived by the image...there is no metal on the handle (it's just silver rubber). The best thing is the products are all one piece, so you don't have to worry about the tops coming apart from the handles.

We've purchased an entire set of Calphalon utensils recently and are very pleased with our items. The handles fit well in the hand and are sturdy and strong, standing up to regular abuse in our kitchen. Definitely a worthwhile purchase!

Like all the other Calphalon products you'll pay out the wazoo for, this ladle holds up the Calphalon name with great quality, ease of use, and assurance of a lifetime warranty. I use a dishwasher on this, and no discoloration yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy Ladle, August 11, 2010

I like the fact that the handle has a rubber type grip and is a bit larger which makes using the ladle easier. Scoops out generous amounts of soup.

I really like these Calphalon utensils. They work great and are a pleasure to use and to easily clean up. I purchased the 7-piece set and then supplemented the purchase with other individual pieces: this Calphalon nylon ladle, potato masher, and a simply wonderful Oxo brushed stainless steel turner, for using against hard surfaces like Corning Ware or my glass baking dishes. These things get too hot to use nylon utensils on, anyway. The stainless steel crock is a beautiful addition to the kitchen counter and complements stainless steel appliances wonderfully. The spatulas are flexible and work way better to "get it all" when scraping mixing bowls than any spatula I've ever owned before. The only pieces that I'm not the hugest fan of are the wooden turner (it is too thick to be able to easily get under a lot of things that need to be turned) and the large nylon turner (it is a little too big and quite a bit too flexible, which means it's hard to flatten out meat with it in the skillet). About this particular nylon ladle, I really like it a lot for dipping out chili and any other soup-type meals. The bowl of the ladle holds a whopping lot, and it only takes 2 dippersful to fill a soup bowl. Also, because of the design and shape, there is no spillage of food when taking the ladle from the cooking pot to the serving bowl. It is a snap and a breeze to clean. Superb utensil!

I have used this Ladle dozens of times without any problems. One time I accidently left it in a pot while making Homemade Italian Wedding Soup, but to my suprise there was not a melt spot on it. It was left in the pot between 10-15 minutes. Great Product, as you would expect from Calphalon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good kitchen basic, February 12, 2010

This review is from: Calphalon Nylon Ladle (Kitchen)
I have a pricey All-Clad nonstick pan I love and respect enough to use the right utensils to keep it around for years to come. Finding some silicone and other nonstick tools are easily found, but not all. Soup ladles are hard to come by. I also have a digital pressure cooker and the insert pot for that as well is non-stick...not good to use abrasive tools on that either. If you have any of these kinds of pots/pans/pressure cookers, you need a variety of non-stick utensils too. On the inside of the 'bowl' of this ladle are measurement markers too, a helpful feature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Premium quality kitchen tool, December 7, 2009
This review is from: Calphalon Nylon Ladle (Kitchen)
Calphalon is probably best known for their chef quality cooking pans (which I also own) but they're starting to make a name for themselves with their supporting cast of cooking tools as well. I've used a broad variety of kitchen utensils over the years from super cheap wood ones to high quality Good Grips. Of them, Calphalon are among the very best. The reason is simple: extremely high build quality. All of the Calphalon utensils are made of high density plastic with slightly softer plastic handles. They are a single piece of forged nylon which makes them extremely durable. I've been using a set for over a year non-stop and they still look new. Because they are nylon, they are hugely resistant to heat and will not easily melt or deform if accidentally left in a hot pot or pan. They also will not scratch your non-stick pots and pans (or even hard anodized pans if you have them). They also each have a small eyelet that will allow you to easily hang them if that's your thing.

I've never had a problem with the gray part of any of these utensils popping off. Since they have a warranty, if yours fails, send it in and get a new one.

If you prefer professional kitchen tools, these are for you. For a slightly higher price you get a much nicer tool that will last practically forever. As well made as Calphalon's pot/pan sets, they're premium quality utensils.

Highly recommended.
