I though when I bought this cheese slicer that it would be wonderful simply because of the name "Calphalon". Not so...While the grip is very comfortable and the roller is plastic (healthy), the wire is very loose and cannot be adjusted. Also the thickness of the slice cannot be adjusted. I tried to unscrew it and tighten the wire, but no luck. It was fairly expensive, but will just have to throw it away and purchase another one (different brand and style).

I had to purchase this item as a replacement for a friend, due to the fact that I broke his original one. While slicing cheese. I'm pretty sure this thing is called a cheese slicer... Yep, it's right in the name.
I have had a $3 cheese slicer from wally world for 5 years. The best part? I can adjust the slice thickness. The Calphalon slicer only adjust from "working" to "broken"
Bottom line: If you don't care about the quality of your cheese slicer, and only care about it being a "brand name", enjoy your expensive piece of junk.

I purchased this cheese slicer to replace a cheap one I'd had for years that broke. That's right, had it for YEARS before it broke....probably paid a buck for it. I used this Calphalon one time......that's right, once and the wire stretched so far out that it is now useless. Don't waste your money on this product--it's of inferior quality. BTW, accidentally hit the 1 star rating and can't erase it.....this item gets negative 5 stars.

The wire is too loose, so the cheese just breaks off at the bottom when slicing. The wire cannot be tightened. I have used much cheaper cheese slicers that worked much better. We got this as a wedding present, but will throw it away.
