Product Description

Amazon.com Review

This eight-piece nonstick cookware set outfits a kitchen for a lifetime of essential cooking needs. The virtues of Calphalon's anodized aluminum are highly praised among cooks: even heat distribution, quick heating and cooling, durable construction, and attractive design. And the nonstick surface delivers: you can even fry eggs without using any oil. The set includes two fry pans (or omelet pans, as Calphalon calls them), 8 and 10 inches, for individual and larger portions; two lidded saucepans, 1-1/2 and 2-1/2 quarts, perfect for making a variety of sauces and simmering side dishes; and an 8-quart lidded stockpot that will handle the gamut from pasta to soup to corn. The details of these pots make them especially satisfying to use: riveted stainless-steel handles are sturdy and stay cool while cooking, glass lids fit easily and allow you to view dishes in progress, and the perfect nonstick finish makes both cooking and cleanup a lot easier. Care for these pans with consideration for the long, useful life they offer: always wash them by hand with mild cleaners. --Sherry Smith

2.0 out of 5 stars Go with the hard-anodized instead!, May 4, 2000

The nonstick version of calphalon is really for those who aren't very serious about cooking. Part of the charm of Calphalon - esp. the professional hard anodized line - is that it is incredibly durable and can be subjected to the kind of abuse I find in my restaurant kitchen. The no-stick stuff has to be treated with kid gloves: you can't use real utensils and have to get those plasticky nylon things, you can't properly deglaze the pan (a huge issue if you do any French cooking), etc.

And anyway, the hard-anodized stuff cleans up really well in itself. Even in the worst-case, charred scenarios, simply put some hot soapy water in it and let it soak awhile, and stuff'll come right out. I've had my set for many years, and it's still like new. Non-stick stuff - even Calphalon's - just doesn't have that kind of lifespan.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong with Calphalon, December 18, 2002

When my husband and I got married recently, we looked for quite a while for the right set of pots and pans to register for. Recent college graduates, we didn't have a decent piece of cookware between us, and were really determined to have something that would last.

I am happy to say that this Calphalon set has more than met our needs in the 7 months since we've had it. It is simply a fantastic set of cookware - from the hard anondized cooking service that I've never had to scrub to the fact that the metal handles make the pieces both stove and oven safe - this is the cookware set for you. As a previous reviewer noted, there is hardly even a need to use oil or butter when cooking in these pans, so low fat cooking is a breeze.

A few caveats which in no way detract from the set, but which you should know about:
1) If you want to get the best life out of your pieces, you really shouldn't use them in the dishwasher. Since clean-up is so easy, however, this is practically a non-issue.
2) I suggest buying a set of Calphalon utensils to use with these. You can use your current stainless utensils and they probably won't scratch the finish, but when making an investment like this, who wants to take the chance?
3) Remember that although you are getting two omelet pans with the set, they don't come with lids and in fact aren't even made to be used with lids. If you do a lot of skillet cooking for meals as I do, you may want to supplement the set with the covered Chef's pan or Everyday pan, also by Calphalon.

I really can't say enough about how much we enjoy this set - I guarantee you'll love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars High quality non-stick cookware, January 1, 2001

This set of cookware is great for low fat cooking. You don't need to add any cooking spray or oil to prevent food from sticking (not even with eggs or cheese). The clear lids help you to view contents (but the lid handles do get hot). I would highly recommend this set for those individuals who like to cook low fat meals and don't mind using plastic cookware utensils.
