4.0 out of 5 stars Kitchen gadget lover
I recently bought this pan to start replacing my T-Fal that is starting to chip after only 5 years. I LOVE this pan. It works great for our family of 4. The clear glass lids are wonderful and nothing sticks to them. Clean up is a breeze and gets me out of the kitchen fast.

The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is the handle on top of the lid gets very, very hot. Not...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great nonstick pan, bad lid
This pan's nonstick properties are a league above Circulon's (my previous nonstick pan). It is incredibly easy to clean. The lid, however is a different story. The glass is easy enough to clean, but I have noticed that grease gets stuck in the grooves (where the glass meets the stainless steel). The pan alone is worth the price, so I would purchase it again. Otherwise, I...

The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is the handle on top of the lid gets very, very hot. Not a great idea, as a plastic one would work, but probably would melt if put in the oven.

It was worth the money and am back to purchase another one at this great price!

I've had this pan for several weeks now and I'm overjoyed with it.

JUST THE RIGHT SIZE
I make about 3 cups of rice regularly for meals. Generally the 2 & 3 quart pans I have are either too small or too large for the job. This one is perfect. Being shallow it is squattier on the burner too, so it covers it more efficiently as well.

HEATS UP AMAZINGLY FAST
Though I have a decent set of pans to compare it with, I never realized how much a difference a good pan could make. It heats up in half the time the other pan does. This pan must be made for ceramic top stoves. My other pans are flat bottom and aluminum base, but a bit thinner. The speed difference was very noticable.
Also another thing it does is maintain its heat well and very consistently.

HOT HANDLE ON COVER CAN BE A RUDE SURPRISE
The only negative, was since the cover is glass with a metal handle, you are in for a shock if you are used to a plastic handle on the cover. This one gets hot, really hot. I chuckled when I read the other reviewer's complaint. It is not so much that it is glass (which I think is a real plus, no need to lift to check), but the hot handle and the glass make a deadly combination when you accidentally lift it without a pot holder and then are inclined drop it. I think Calpholon would do well to replace it with a plastic one.

HAND WASH ONLY
The other concern I had was needing to hand wash it. Given that it is non-stick, this is real easy work and is not an issue. Most of the time I hand washed my other pans anyway.

GREAT WAY TO GET YOU HOOKED ON CALPHALON
I think this was a great buy and I plan to invest more in some other great Calpholon pans.

This is a great pan. I have the larger one and I use it on a daily basis. It is by far the greatest cookware I have purchased! It cooks evenly, and is very easy to clean. A must!

I gave this as a gift to a good friend and she loves it except for the lid which you need a mit to lift because of excessive heat. All the Calphalon cookware in this series has the same problem. I own the Anolon Professional 2 Qt. pan with the same style lid and I don't risk 2nd degree burns with its lid handle. That being said, all things being equal, I'd go for the Analon. However the price on this style pan is unbeatable, so for the money, buy this pan and a nice mit with the money you save!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality, nice size, June 2, 2003

This review is from: Calphalon Professional Nonstick II Collector's Edition 2-1/2-Quart Shallow Saucepan with Glass Lid (Kitchen)
I bought this pan a couple of months ago, and I've found it very handy. It's a great size for heating up side dishes, cooking rice, making small quantities of sauces, etc. I like the glass lid, since I can see what I'm cooking.

Unlike some of the Calphalon pieces, this is made in the USA, not China. The quality is excellent, and the piece has a definite heft to it but it's not unwieldy.

I've been slowly buying my Calphalon collection over the last several months (all from Amazon), and this is one of my most used pieces.

...do a lot of things in our eclectic empty nest kitchen. It's shallow enough and wide enough that I occasionally use it to pinch-hit for a less heavy-duty stir-fry pan. But most often I use it for sauces and quick "into the oven" finishes.

I tend to steer clear of Calphalon because, frankly, I'm a lazy ol' girl who won't buy what can't go through the dishwasher. This pot is an exception because it is small enough that clean up is not a huge hassle. In addition, it happened that on its first use the outside of the pot had some of the yummy food scorched (I feared permanently) on the exterior. Not at all. It was easy to scrub clean.

In summary, the pot is small enough to get a heavy workout in our little household, small enough to be cleaned easily, and sufficiently heavy duty to take anything we throw into it. It would be a good value at its full price; at the Amazon.com price, it's an outstanding bargain.

I LOVE my Calphalon Professional Nonstick Cookware with glass lids. It is beautiful, cooks evenly, can go from stovetop to oven and NOTHING sticks. Even Christmas candies that used to stick in my "old" cookware and took hours to clean up.....they don't stick in the Calphalon nonstick cookware.....so incredibly much easier to clean up. My mother loved making Christmas candy with me too when I used my Calphalon nonstick. It was an annual event that became so much more enjoyable after getting my Calphalon. I just wonder what took me so long. It is really Grrrreat!

With Amazon's ... offer, I couldn't refuse this pan. And it even comes with a handsome glass lid.

As mentioned in the manual, it really does cook at a lower heat setting than other cookware. The long handle is very easy to use, and the pan and lid both feel very solid. Since I am able to cook and simmer at lower heat settings, I have had no trouble with the lid handle being too hot to the touch.

This pan really excels at pasta and cheese sauce dishes, since it boils quickly at only med-high heat, reacts instantly to changes in heat settings, simmers easily, and cleanup is painless with just a rinse and a swab with a soapy sponge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Copper bottoms forced into retirement, January 12, 2003

This review is from: Calphalon Professional Nonstick II Collector's Edition 2-1/2-Quart Shallow Saucepan with Glass Lid (Kitchen)
Due to the brand reputation, I browsed Calphalon items in the stores on and off for months. Due, however, to the price, I never made the plunge. At these prices, I figured I could not go wrong.

I have had the pot for a few months and have used in primarily to steam vegetables and prepare sauces. With the glass lid, I can 'see' if the contents are boiling, simmering, or even, well...vegetating. The condensation on the lid from inside the pot does ocassionally obstruct the view somewhat, but I can still see what is going on. The veggies, by the way, are full of flavor. Clean up truly is a breeze.

This 2.5 quart pot has permanently replaced my old 2 and 3 quart copper bottom pots, which I have since given away. I truly believe you will not regret purchasing this item.
