Calphalon manufactures excellent pots, pans, bakeware, and accessories. Unfortunately, this Calphalon small/medium roasting rack is one of the few items that does not live up to the Calphalon reputation for durability. After its second use, some of the nonstick coating came off the rack, which has caused it to be hard-to-clean and look unsightly. (This is my second Calphalon roasting rack--the same thing happened with the first one, too.) However, this rack is very sturdy, will hold a small- to medium-sized turkey in a 14-inch or 16-inch roaster, and the wide handles make it easy to lift out of the roasting pan. So I continue to use mine, with nonstick cooking spray. Even so, some of the poultry and game skins do stick to the rack a bit. Therefore, whoever gets the clean-up task must take extra care to use non-abrasive scrubbers and cleaners to protect the finish of this rack.

A sturdier, better designed rack would be hard to find. It sits comfortably in the roaster, offers large handles for ease in lifting even the heaviest roasts, and is non-stick! Unfortunately once it's out of its element, it's unwieldy. Cooking meat spatters, so almost every inch of this rack is covered with grease. The metal can scratch your sink. This isn't fun. My best advice is to find someplace where you can let it soak in hot, soapy water for a few minutes. Then use a nylon pad, and keep turning the rack to make sure you've got all the surfaces clean. It's easy to miss something when you're dealing with this sort of design. Let's face it, at this price, this rack is a bargain any way you look at it. Just expect to spend a little extra time and effort on the cleaning.

If you don't want to spring for a roasting pan, no problem - the disposables do just as well. There is no question, however, that your bird needs a lift out of its own juices. There is no better way than with this rack. Large, sturdy and truly non stick, this rack will ensure even cooking by exposing all sides equally.
When you find a high quality kitchen essential at such a low price, I can see no reason to let it go. Buy it. Now.

I've had this rack for over a year now and I've used it many, many times. It's a roasting necessity for a beautiful holiday turkey, everyday chicken, or fabulous sirloin roast (gives you uniform roasting by allowing heat to circulate around the meat and preventing the lower portion of your roast or bird from boiling in it's own juices at the bottom of the roasting pan). This particular rack is offered in a larger size, but when I bought it last year, this was the only choice available. I'm very happy with it -- I've cooked a few 20+lb turkeys in it and don't see the need for the larger rack. Granted, my 22lb turkey did look like a size 18 woman in a pair of size 6 jeans, but it still worked quite well! I've never had a problem with clean-up that a little soaking in soapy water didn't fix. The rack doesn't look as lovely as the day I got it, but geez... it's been roasted a couple dozen times and it's still going strong. I highly recommend this rack.

This would be a wonderful addition to any cook's kitchen. It holds almost any size meat or poultry... large or small. It will probably fit most roasting pans, although the Calphalon pan is the easiest to clean up. The best part... all the fat drips off the meat while it's roasting. Other roasting racks that I've used only sit a half inch or less off the bottom of the pan and sometimes that's just not enough to keep the meat out of the drippings. If you can love a roasting rack... I do!

Every time I use my Calphalon roasting pan and rack, I am amazed how easily food comes off both rack and pan.

Elevating your roast while cooking it is essential for even-cooking and keeping it out of the fat-ladened drippings. This rack accomplishes that nicely when used in a small size roasting pan (we have the "Calphalon Professional 14" Small Commercial Roaster").

Typical of the Calphalon quality that most people expect from their products, this rack will not disappoint. When they say "non-stick", they mean it! We use this rack over and over and it is still as easy to clean as the day we first used it. Excellent price for an excellent product! If you have a small roaster (or like to use the store-bought disposeables), then this is the perfect addition to your kitchen.

As a brief after-thought, this would make a good little "bonus", along with a set of lifters and maybe a flavor injector, if you are giving someone a roaster as a gift. :)

This rack is sturdy & just perfect turkey dinners will be so much easier. I also purchased the pan to go with the rack.

I have both this and its 'big brother' that came with the Calphalon Contemporary roaster.

This rack gets the most work since I rarely get to cook for large parties or family gatherings. It is sturdy but it is no joy to clean. That is why I have rated it 4-stars. This is the type of item, because of its sharp, fixed, hard-to-reach angles that begs to be dishwasher safe. I wonder when companies like Calphalon will get a clue???
