Workhorse little pan,
By A Customer
This review is from: Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless 1-1/2-Quart Saucepan with Glass Lid (Kitchen)
I use this little guy constantly. A one-quart size is usually too small. A two-quart is often too big. This one's just right. It is well balanced, making it easy to wield. And it is high quality, providing superb performance. Being only slightly less "hefty" than All Clad, it heats very evenly. It's advantages over All Clad, however, are the see-thru lid, which is engineered to drain condensation back into the pan, and the well-designed rim, which dependably pours in a coherent, nondribble stream that doesn't make a mess all over the stove. The cool-V handle indeed stays cool (at least it has for the up-to-30-minute stretches I've used it). The rivets detract somewhat from the smooth interior; however, a trip thru the dishwasher (although anathema to some) always cleans it up perfectly. Also, I learned years ago never to cook anything in stainless steel that leaves a residue that tends to stick like glue. Thus I do not use this pan for such things as oatmeal, scrambled eggs, or pasta. Those foods are best cooked in nonstick or LeCreuset. But for heating a can of soup, boiling a few eggs, simmering pasta sauce, making cocoa, or etc., THIS little guy is perfect. If you don't have a nice stainless pan this size, you're in for a treat if you try this one.

Love it!,

This is a nice size saucepan. I like it better than the 1 quart I owned before - a little more useful. The glass dome lid is great and so is the clean up. The cleaning pad and cleanser they recommend work great. Stuck on sauces come of with minimal effort. Food can get under the rim of the lid and around the rivets but a scrub brush gets it right out and I'd rather have the rivet handles than the screwed on ones I owned before that would loosen and eventually broke off. It's heavy duty construction makes it a good purchase that will last a long time.

What a fine addition to my slowly-growing collection of Tri-Ply. This one, which I use almost daily, is perfect for boiling a couple of eggs, heating a can of soup, or, best of all, making a perfect Hollandaise from scratch. The practical size and good heft of the pan make no-curdle sauces easy. The trick is to have the ingredients at room temperature, and to gently heat the pan a little before adding them. As with any Tri-Ply pan, remember that this pan conducts heat so efficiently that you'll want to use a much lower heat setting than you're accustomed to. When the sauce is finished, pour it into a serving dish or gravy boat, and put the pan in the sink to soak. Clean-up then requires just a swish with a soapy sponge. My several Tri-Ply pans, like my good knives, make me wonder why I didn't invest in decent stuff years, no, decades earlier.

I just love Calphalon Tri-Ply -- and this is one of my most-used pots,

When I bought my Calphalon Tri-Ply set, I knew that I would want to supplement it with some open-stock pieces, and this 1 1/2 quart sauce pan was one of those. Even though I already owned one in my set, I often had to reach for one of my Cuisinart pot of the same size because the Calphalon one was already in use. No more. I bought another one of these little pots (the smallest of the line that comes with a lid). It's the perfect size for soups, small amounts of vegetables, sauces -- anything that doesn't need a lot of space. Although it holds up to 6 cups of liquid right to the brim, I wouldn't use it for anything greater than four cups (1 quart) to prevent boil over.
Why Tri-Ply? Like Cuisinart Multi-Clad and higher-end All-Clad, the exterior is a single piece of stainless without a separate conductive bottom. (See my video review of Calphalon Tri-Ply 13-Piece Cookware Set for a demonstration.) Sandwiched between the exterior and the solid interior is air, which makes for more even and fast heating. The handle is comfortable, and the lid fits well. Note: I noticed in a store the other day that Calphalon seems to have changed the lips of the lids to a flatter lip more like the Cuisinart's, but the model pictured on this page has the older version, the one that I own. You really can't go wrong with Tri-Ply. The only thing I recommend is shopping around for the best prices, as cookware prices seem to change often with manufacturer sales. -- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

bought this saucepan for my wife for xmas; she was getting by with something not intended for making sauces, and since she is a great cook, it was time to replace the impostor pan. She loves the pan, doesn't have to worry about seeing her progress, as the lid is glass, and we all benefit with a happy cook, who creates tasty meals. And so far, it is easy to clean- I often wash dishes by hand, this pot among them, and it cleans without endless elbow grease. It is well made, heavy and intended to last.

This pot is a good size for cooking up stuff for one or two people. Obviously it is a good size for sauces also. It heats very fast and evenly and looks great also.

It's just the right size, comes with a lid, and is easy to clean. The price on Amazon beat any price I found in the stores. It's a great addition to my set of Calphalon Tri-Ply cookware.
