4.0 out of 5 stars Not the prettiest tool in our kitchen, but very functional
My husband likes Breyers ice cream. But there have been times in the past I literally could not dent the ice cream, let alone scoop it out, because that brand gets so hard in the freezer. My husband, of course, would use brute force, bending my Oneida spoons :(. The solution up until now has been to let the ice cream sit on the counter for a few minutes; but...

2.0 out of 5 stars Ice cream scoop
This one is too light for cold ice cream below -15C. should match with soft ice cream only.

My husband likes Breyers ice cream. But there have been times in the past I literally could not dent the ice cream, let alone scoop it out, because that brand gets so hard in the freezer. My husband, of course, would use brute force, bending my Oneida spoons :(. The solution up until now has been to let the ice cream sit on the counter for a few minutes; but continually letting ice cream melt and re-freeze over and over didn't seem quite right.

This has solved the problem; it doesn't bend (even with my husband's use), it does get into corners of the carton fairly well, the grip is great, it cleans beautifully in the dishwasher, and my flatware is spared any more abuse.

The black and grey handle isn't particularly appealing to me, but it works as intended. Keep in mind this is for small scoops of ice cream, to suit cones and small custard-sized dishes. I highly recommend "Cuisinart Ice Cream Spade" for bowl-sized portions. It will save you a lot of time and effort.

Great Scooper. Do not buy aluminum products for your kitchen, someone is eventually bound to toss it in your dishwasher which will destroy it. This product is made from Stainless Steel and properly design to scoop with ease. Buy in confidence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Ice Cream Scoop, August 28, 2010

This stainless steel scoop helps to cut through our hard ice cream with relative ease. The three prong design scoops the ice cream cleanly and in less time than our rounded aluminum scoop which was somewhat cumbersome to use and left more melted ice cream on the scoop than in the cone. This scoop is very well made and very sturdy. I highly recommend purchasing this item.

First thing I could think to do when I got this Calphalon ice cream scooper was bend it. With my two bare hands, It wouldn't budge. I tried to bend it across my knee, nothing. In fact, I've done things to this scooper that I wouldln't dream of doing to anything else... but it's Calphalon. I'll just send away for another one if it ever bends, right?
