This quick release is a great alternative to a Monfrotto quick release because the base plates are interchangeable. I also like the accessory screws on the side because you can mount different accessories. One thing I don't like is that the screw that tightens on the plate has a knob that hits the base of most cameras making it difficult to tighten. Although it does ratchet and will work, it is still annoying.
I bought this for my Opeteka stabilizer and it fits great. The mount accepts the Manfrotto 501 video plates. If you compare the Calumet plate and the Manfotto, they are 99% the SAME.
The only different is in the base itself. The red "release" button on the Calumet is red painted WOOD. I was a little surprised to see that. I thought plastic would be a cheaper option as that is what my Manfrotto video head has. I'm hoping it doesn't wear out over time, but for the cost savings, it's worth the substitution still.
