5.0 out of 5 stars This book answers questions on how to deal with failure.
Back in the 1960's, we met Roy Hession and his first wife, Revel, at a retreat where they were sharing. We had never heard honesty and openness from Christians like that before. 3.0 out of 5 stars The Calvary Road - Be Filled Now - Holy Spirit and Revival
The Calvary Road - Be Filled Now by Roy Hession is two books in one, hence the title; and is about the Holy Spirit, death to self and is woven in and around personal revival with a mention of the East Africa Revival.

The Calvary Road (not to be confused with My Calvary Road of the same author)was first published in 1950 and Be Filled Now in 1967 and this...

5.0 out of 5 stars This book answers questions on how to deal with failure., October 11, 1999
This review is from: The Calvary Road (Paperback)
Back in the 1960's, we met Roy Hession and his first wife, Revel, at a retreat where they were sharing. We had never heard honesty and openness from Christians like that before. They told how sin keeps us from that abundant life that Jesus promised and how important it was to start right where we live, in our homes, and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any sin that was blocking Him from filling us to overflowing. Calvary Road helped us to see how we had been exusing sin rather than calling it what it was, how we had been "stuffing it" rather than repenting. We thought that the way was to climb up, but we saw the way up is down, down to the foot of the cross. Jesus began to reveal Himself as we allowed Him to show us where we needed His light and cleansing. As we humbled ourselves before Him, He has shown us that this simple way of walking in His light and repentance and coming to the cross is the result of seeing Jesus. Jesus has transformed and is continuing to transform us into His image and our marriage gets sweeter and sweeter as we both keep our eyes on Him, putting Jesus first, serving each other out of love for Jesus. We highly recommend this book and also "We Would See Jesus", he and Revel's second book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Impacting for the Desperate and Needy, May 10, 2005
This review is from: The Calvary Road (Paperback)
I was 16 the first time I read this book and it greatly impacted my life then. It was the first stepping stone to walking in freedom in Christ, showing me that the fears, insecurities and shyness that I never thought of (and even blamed others for, "If only they'd do this...") were from my own sins, and Jesus could free me from them.

Life has taken many paths and I forgot much of what was talked about in the book, and more recently the old fears and insecurities crept in again. I picked up the book again and the Lord exposed the places I'd tried to hide - where I'd tried to be strong, able, and just proud, trying to prove that I was okay, rather than agreeing with God that I'm not good without Him, and letting Jesus be my goodness. I discovered that the thing I was running from (conviction, brokenness, and humility) is the thing that has brought me the peace I otherwise hadn't been able to find.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth its Weight in Gold, March 15, 2000

For such a small book, this packs quite a punch. This book is for those Christians seeking a closer walk with their Lord Jesus Christ. Not for the non-Christian. Well worth any Christian's time to read and re-read this book. Your life will never quite be the same. Page for page, may very well be the very best book I've ever read.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is simply what God has to say to us, July 24, 1999

As I read the first few pages of this book, back a long while ago, I knew that what was to be spoken in it was from God. When I was 16, living in Colombia, South America, what Roy Hession here describes in words from God is what God did to me. Here in this book, God uses Hession to display his only desire and purpose-- what the entire Bible is saying. That all He wants is exactly who we are-- all our purpose, all our desire, all our life, all our worth, all our needs, all our actions, everything. And that He has the victory to take us entirely every moment of the day. He can live within us. We can know Eternal Life right here on earth. Give up all you are to Him, and know the only joy of loosing everything to be found in Everything. Read this book if you know you aren't enough, and even in all your Christianity, you are a "valley full of dry bones"-- you have missed Him.

It is hard to write a review of a book that changed me from the inside out. Mr. Hession identifies sin; clarifies sin and offers the only cleansing solution...Jesus' Blood shed on Calvary. You are lead along the road to sin identity, sin admission, and cleansing. Relationships and how we respond to others are given new light...Jesus' light. A superb book for any Christian who would like a closer more fulfilling relationship with Jesus and the gift He gave us...eternal life. I strongly recommend this book. Be warned, you will see sin in a different light and realize what a daily battle we all have in fighting the flesh.

5.0 out of 5 stars PREPARE TO BE BROKEN..., November 16, 2000

There is no room for the stiff necked and proud at the foot of the cross. This book reinforces that those that are readied to serve are those that have bent the straight and stiff "I" into a bowed head and a humble heart. If you believe that you've arrived in your Christian walk...if you believe that you're "Good Enough", take the time to reach these few powerful pages and realize that the only good in us is Christ. And when you realize this...you're read for Christ to use you.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is as worn out as my Bible!!, October 20, 2000

This is the most candid spiritual book I have ever read. It is very simple and very profound. Get ready to get real with God while reading this book! I would also recommend Roy Hession's book "My Calvary Road" which is a wonderful biography of his own experience of finding victory over self and sin through the power of the cross of Jesus Christ.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read book for a victorious Christian walk., July 29, 1999
By
This review is from: The Calvary Road (Paperback)
Reading this book was like the getting to know the Lord over again. To be made aware of how far my path has wondered from His.Refreshing to see how easy, but painful, to get back on the path, and what is required to stay their.I use to think brokeness was something to be feared. But, Oh,what freedom it can offer. The book reveals living the independent life, from God,is not freedom, but bondage. This needs to be read and re-read,it has a way of bringing the Word's basic truth's to applicable living. An other book similar to this is "A Chritianity That Really Works". By Ron Marr

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful little book!!, September 4, 2004

In this little book published by Christian Literature Crusade (CLC), Roy Hession focuses on the road a Christian must take in order for him/her to be useful to God. Brokenness, humility of heart and mind, purity, and other virtues are necessary, and at the end of the book, he speaks about his own "Calvary Road" so many years ago which prompted him to write this book.

A powerful little book with a great deal of insight for the Christian.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!!, March 13, 2002
This review is from: The Calvary Road (Paperback)
I was given this book as a graduation gift last year and just picked it up. I am so glad that I finally did! Mr. Hession is a very simple, easy to read writer. I have been challenged in my inner self to live what I talk. The book talks about revival. And as the author says revival is when we are walking with Jesus and at peace with out brothers and sisters in Christ! There isn't anything complicated about revival! It is when we desied that yes, Jesus is the most important thing to me! A great book! Lots of challenging stuff in it!
