Book Description

2005
There is probably no issue that has created more division in the Church. Just how does salvation work? What did God accomplish through the cross and what is it that man does in order to receive it benefits? Most Christians have heard of the primary positions on this issue, but are somewhat baffled by their distinctions. Just what are the fault-lines of the Arminian vs. Calvinism debate? And as importantly, what does true Calvinism teach over and against the "straw-man" of hyper-Calvinism - the prevailing caricature so many use to attack the distinctives of the reformed faith? Many believe that the Western Church has entered into a time of testing; that without the recovery of the true Gospel - with its biblical view of both God and man - the experiment in Christian liberty that is America is finished. It is time for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord to "strengthen the things that remain." The Apologetics Group is committed to providing tools to help spark this reformation. Along with Amazing Grace and other videos and books, we are pleased to announce the publication of Calvinism, Hyper-Calvinism and Arminianism by Drs. Kenneth Talbot and Gary Crampton. Learn how the sovereignty of God does not relieve man from his duty or responsibility. Discover how the gospel can be shared without compromising God's sovereignty. Finally, learn that Calvinism is more than five points of theology, but a world and life view that has great implications on how we are to live our lives, love our spouse, raise our children and disciple the nations.

"This book is without a doubt the most important book you will ever read as an introduction to the doctrinal issues dealing with Calvinism, Hyper-Calvinism and Arminianism. Drs. 5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, January 2, 2008
This review is from: Calvinism, Hyper-Calvinism and Arminianism (Paperback)
I found this book to be well writen, and insightful. However, I think the point that everyone needs to understand, especially in terms of another review that was posted of this book, fits into this portion of the description: "And as importantly, what does true Calvinism teach over and against the straw-man of hyper-Calvinism, the prevailing caricature so many use to attack the distinctives of the reformed faith?"

1.0 out of 5 stars The Gospel without compromising God's Sovereignty?, September 27, 2007
This review is from: Calvinism, Hyper-Calvinism and Arminianism (Paperback)
Only a book by determinists who think nothing happens unless God wills it (btw, that also includes sin) would have in their title discription: "Discover how the gospel can be shared without compromising God's sovereignty."

In other words, it is ok to offer the Gospel and ask people to believe it as their own choice because the Calvinists play a shell game with semantics that redifines belief and choice.

For the hyper Calvinist, there is no reason to offer the gospel to either the elect or the non-elect and that includes the clear commands of Jesus! After all, only the elect can believe --and they will come hell or high water. To ask the non elect to believe also is without merit and logic since they cannot believe. God pulls all the strings on the farce we call life and causes his chosen to believe (though this is belief without exercising independent choice and cannot be resisted) and God passes by and damns the non-elect (Calvin's own words!) and they cannot believe since their strings were not pulled.

To say the least, Calvinism is pretty sick and the grossest of all perversions of who God is and what his word actually teaches.
