1.0 out of 5 stars Silent Whistle? This tea kettle is for the dogs., November 6, 2010

As a graduate design student, I spend a lot of time working on the best way to design products for utility, performance and manufacturability. The crap continually sold on the market to consumers is not only insulting, but also a deplorable burden on our environment and economy. Imagine if you will, that all products worked as advertised, were built to last, and added in some way to the aesthetic value of our lives. Now back to reality. In this day and age, there really is no excuse for creating bad a product. The most common causes, however, seem to be lack of training, laziness and/or greed.

Although the handle does allow for pretty good pouring compared to many other kettles, not only did our bird not whistle, but the spring mechanism that controls the top is far too tight, which leads to easily burned fingers. This thing may look like a streamlined relic, but was built more for the landfill than for people. Do not buy it.

I rate this item 2 two stars because it has not whistled once since I put it on the stove a month ago. Will not be order another one. What looks pretty is not always what it is going to be.

This is a beautiful kettle and fits great in my kitchen decor. There is one negative - it does not whistle! Strange for a kettle especially at the cost!

I understand that this isn't engineered to the max in terms of convection and materials. This was bought for aesthetics because I wanted something nice looking to sit on the stove. Get something more utilitarian if you are a big time tea drinker.

This kettle has a lot going for it, but it comes up short in the long run. Its made out of SS and the handle is pretty sturdy, much better than some of these other brands. The handle doesnt get too hot and it looks good on the stove.

I would rate it higher, but the whistle only worked for one day and its hard to fill.
