Get it from their website...over $600 is absolutely ridiculous for any CD. The most I ever paid for an album was $60 for The Monkees "Changes" back in 1983 when it was impossibly hard to come by (I got my IRS refund that day and ordered it to complete my Monkees collection of what was out there in the early 1980s). There's plenty to look forward to on thei disc, particularly the long-awaited first official appearance of Peter's great song "Good Looker", widely circulated among fans from his acetate demos recorded for Sire Records, but there's no excuse for pricing anything this high.

This is a great and earthy blues album from former Monkee Tork and his band Shoe Suede Blues (and I don't say that just because I was thanked by the group in the album liner notes). With a sharper attack and quick eye on the truth of the blues as both music and muse, CAMBRIA HOTEL mixes together Tork's love of all that is melodic and beautiful in music but never takes its eye off its bluesy center. Highlights of the record include "Bound to Lose" (wonderful banjo from Tork), "Ain't Your Fault" (extremely bluesy, featuring Tork's playing alongside that of the late great blues guitarist and SSB member Richard Mikuls), and a remade version of the song that Tork co-wrote and which wound up the end-credits music on the 2nd season of The Monkees' TV show . . . "For Pete's Sake" (Tork is in fine singing mode on this one, and sings very well on the entire album). My band and I had the pleasure of playing at a NY club during a listening party for this CD back in 2007, and Peter and his group were great fun. With new word that The Monkees are going to reunite for 10 shows in the UK during May 2011, my band and I get to now savor the time that we got to play "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" with Peter there at the club that night. Peter Tork is a man of music, and CAMBRIA HOTEL is an album of real listening class . . .
