The New Ensemble Home Theater system delivers incredibly realistic, wide-range sound and easy room placement thanks to the separate woofer enclosures. Its two-way satellite speakers incorporate long-throw mid-bass/midrange speakers and 1 3/4-inch direct radiator tweeters. Using separate drivers for the mid and high frequencies works well because each speaker can specialize in producing one part of the signal. And the midrange speaker responds low enough to eliminate gaps between the satellites and the subwoofer.
The system's bass is reproduced by two slim (4 1/2-inch) passive acoustic suspension subwoofer cabinets enclosing 8-inch woofers. The narrow subs can be put in places where no other subwoofer would fit. The satellites can then be placed at ear level, positioned for a realistic stereo image. Their small size makes them very unobtrusive. Each satellite and subwoofer contains all the response-tailoring circuitry required (including deep bass filtering).
New Ensemble Home Theater's center speaker, the Center Channel Plus, features four bass/mid-range speakers for robust reproduction of TV sound effects and a tweeter to produce clear, wide-range sound throughout the room. Its ultra-low, ultra-wide profile fits gracefully into most home theater setups. Having a smaller sound source spreads the mid-range over a wider area. The special high-frequency speaker used in the Center Channel Plus reaches lower into the midrange output than other tweeters. This provides a smoother vocal quality than could be achieved if the bass/midrange drivers were required to cover the same range.
The Surround 5.1 rear speakers use a MultiPole design that lets you choose from dipole (diffuse radiation) or bipole (direct radiation) radiating patterns, for optimum sound and flexibility. The MultiPole switch on the Surround 5.1 alters the directionality of the speaker. Dipole mode sends the mid and high frequency output along the side walls, so all the listeners hear a diffused, enveloping sound. Bipole mode concentrates this output toward the listening area, providing central listeners more precise imaging.
The Ensemble really comes through on all counts. The system will eloquently reproduce even the most delicate musical passages, yet can also handle the most explosive action movie soundtrack.
Charcoal, also available in White with a Charcoal center channel.
