5.0 out of 5 stars Best speakers I've owned- and a great value
These speakers are made by Cambridge Soundworks, a company from Boston, who puts great sound and real value into everything they make. Cambridge was started by an MIT guy, Henry Kloss who was a master of sound, and very practical in his designs. He also started KLH and Advent. But back to these speakers - the Model six's are awesome sounding bookshelf speakers- not too...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great - for the money.
It's tough to get speakers in this price range that are worth listening to. These are, but they are *not* great speakers per se. They sound honky and "boxy" to me - especially compared to Cambridge Soundworks own original Ensemble system. This is ironic because the new 6 actually uses the same tweeter as the old Ensemble. Go figure.

Spending more money will...

Cambridge was started by an MIT guy, Henry Kloss who was a master of sound, and very practical in his designs. He also started KLH and Advent. But back to these speakers - the Model six's are awesome sounding bookshelf speakers- not too big, not too small. My Ella Fitzgerald glides through them, and they seem to pick up every trace of the recording. I have a pair for the front speakers of my main home theater system, and in my study hooked up to an old stereo receiver, and in both rooms they sound beautiful. For the money, you won't find better sound.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Sound for the $$$$, November 26, 2002

have had these speakers for years, and they are outstanding. have surpassed my expectations, and just read that Consumer Reports gave this model a best buy rating, for sound, value, and their 10 year warranty. I've had mine for 12 years, and they play as well as the day I ordered them. thank you henry kloss- you make a great speaker. and now I can spend my saved money on other things. like my fishing trips!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best bargain, November 7, 2002

This review is from: Cambridge SoundWorks Model Six Two-Way Bookshelf Speakers (Pair), Black (Electronics)
This pair of speakers is the best bargain I have ever come across in over fifty years experience in purchasing high quality sound systems. I really don't see how Cambridge SoundWorks can make a living at this, but I certainly hope they continue to do so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply amazing sound. Great value., February 8, 2009
This review is from: Cambridge SoundWorks Model Six Two-Way Bookshelf Speakers (Pair), Black (Electronics)
First off, you are better off buying direct from cambridgesoundworks.com. You spend only $150 from their site.

These speakers are simply amazing. Better than Bose, comparable to more expensive BW/B&O bookshelf speakers. They can compliment almost any type of stereo amplifier, being able to handle up to 150 watts apiece. Nice crisp treble; well defined midrange; and tight bass, which doesn't fill the room but will certainly make your guests ask: Where is your subwoofer? The only part about these speakers which can use improvement are the connectors. The plastic nuts are a pain to screw down, but I solved this by adding some easy twist Monster banana plugs to my AR Reference wires. Monster Cable QL GMT-H QuickLock Gold Banana Connectors (2 Pair)

Spending more money will definitely get you better speakers than the Model 6. I did own a pair of the original Model 6's back in the '70s and the new ones sound much better at low volumes, but the originals smoke the new ones at high levels.

Comparing the new 6 to any Bose system will make them sound good if only because Bose speakers are more about convenience than real sound quality. The only Bose speakers that appeal to me are the automobile systems and the 501s. Even the vaunted Bose 901s sound dead IMO.

In summary, the new Model 6 is very nice for $75 apiece, but don't think for a minute that a $500 speaker won't sound better - it will.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Speaker Value, December 26, 2008
By
This review is from: Cambridge SoundWorks Model Six Two-Way Bookshelf Speakers (Pair), Black (Electronics)
I've enjoyed these for several years and didn't realize how great they were until doing my own comparison test. I did a/b testing with the Model Sixes going head to head with my Athena AS-F2s, B1s, Insignia B2111s, ADS L710s and Aerial Acoustic Model Fives. The CSW bested all these except for the Aerials which cost ten times more. For a low budget 6.1 giant killer I'd recommend 3 pairs teamed with a Dayton 10 inch sub and powered by a Panasonic digital receiver.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great speakers GREAT price, September 16, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cambridge SoundWorks Model Six Two-Way Bookshelf Speakers (Pair), Black (Electronics)
The CSW model 6 speakers are large for book shelf speakers, The sound is great and they have a 8" woofer, They completed my stereo system and made it sound great! Excellent warranty, No cost shipping when ordered direct from CSW, ordered by phone and talked to someone in Mass (which is nice in this day and age).

For the money you can't go wrong!! Break them in , position them carefully and enjoy!! There is a 45 day satisfaction guarantee also,,, But I doubt you'll use it! Carl H

5.0 out of 5 stars Best in it's class - even over a 40-YEAR period!!!, February 9, 2005

Yep, I do not own the newer Model Six, but purchased a pair of original KLH Model Sixes in 1966!! Believe it or not, those are going strong to this day and will become the front speakers in a new 6.1 surround-sound system in our new home, under construction. Why give up good quality speakers, if they continue to sound great 40-years later!!! Henry Kloss was a TRUE genius, and his audio inventions over the years prove it!
