I thought that this would be a quality product. These are pricey for plastic buckets with lids, and I'm very sorry now that I bought them. The buckets are too large for the lids to fit, and when you think it's on, the bucket pops out on the side, making the whole lid fall off. I purchased these containers specifically for making bread with the "5-minute Artisan bread" recipe. It costs less to buy these two containers, with lids included, than it does to buy one container and the lid that's sold separately (I still can't figure out that marketing scheme).

Readers of the 5-minute Artisan bread book will wonder about whether or not the lids are air-tight. I don't know if they are air-tight or not, but I've made several batches of dough and stowed them in the refrigerator with the lid on tight with no problems. I initially considered punching a small hole in the lid, but it's not necessary (at least it was not with the set I received). If concerned one can easily leave the lid partially unfastened or drill/punch a hole in the lid.

Those who want to buy a container for making 5-minute Artisan bread will find these to be perfect. They would also be useful for storing items (like flour for more bread). They are easy to clean (mine had no oily film on them like one reviewer claimed) and durable. These are the ones to buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for bread dough!, December 18, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I got these specifically for the bread dough recipes in a book. They are just the right size and come with lids. Now, before you scoff, you should look at other similar containers - you have to buy the lids SEPARATELY which just seemed so strange to me. I am pretty happy with these - two is good because I can rotate them.

I gave them four instead of five because they came with some sort of light greasy coating that was nearly impossible to wash off. Dishwasher didn't take it off. Hand-washing with liquid dishsoap didn't take it off. I ended up soaking them in super-hot water with a little bleach to get it off. I'm sure it's something added in the manufacture, but had I not been inspecting them carefully, I might have missed the fact that it was not washing off very well. Now that they are clean, I love them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for bread recipes!, January 14, 2010

Initially I wasn't sure this would be worth the money, but I'm so glad I bought these! This two-pack with lids is a great deal, and I even did comparison pricing with a local restaurant supply shop that often has bargains. The supply store also sold these containers, again with the lids separately, making the purchase of one container and lid roughly $12. I ordered these containers to use with recipes from Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day, as well as the Healthy Bread book, and I am thrilled. I didn't find an unusual coating on the containers after unwrapping them as a previous reviewer did. In fact, I gave them a good wash with soap and water and promptly filled them with dough to refrigerate. These containers are worlds easier to use than my randomly shaped mixing bowls covered with plastic wrap that never really sticks and just fills the garbage can. I may also try brining a smaller chicken for the first time, now that I have the perfect container!

Cambro 6 qrt. round containers & covers

Just like most reviewers I plan on using these containers for storing bread dough. I was reluctant to order because of the dimensions given in the product description. 9 4/5 by 10 1/5 by 18 inches. My refrigerator has very modest dimensions. To handle an 18 inch tall container would require removing a shelf. Do I really want to turn that much of my refrigerator over to bread dough? No. In one place it is stated that the 18 inch measurement is when stacked. OK. Estimate about a 15% deduction based on the picture. Still too tall. Order anyway based on all the reviewers using these for the same purpose for which I need them.

They just arrived. They are a perfect size. Actual measurements for a single container are 8 inches tall, 7 1/2 inches bottom diameter and 10 inches across top when handles are included (8 7/8 without handles).

Although I have not yet used them I can tell they will be just right for my purpose. So don't be frightened off by the measurements given in the product description.

I thought that this would be a quality product. These are pricey for plastic buckets with lids, and I'm very sorry now that I bought them. The buckets are too large for the lids to fit, and when you think it's on, the bucket pops out on the side, making the whole lid fall off. MVTrading refused to resolve the problem, saying "they should fit tightly." Well, they don't fit properly, and how could that be my fault? The $7 in shipping was a lot, and they expect me to pay shipping back and again in order to get a different set. Even if I did get an exchange, with this seller, I would doubt they would be right the second time. I think it's possible that either the lids or buckets became misshapen because the seller crammed them into a box that was not high enough to fit them without smashing them. This was a terrible experience, and I'd encourage others not to buy this product from them, because if there are problems, they will not help you.

I have done the research for you...this is the best price with shipping you will find on the net. The other sites do not offer lids with purchase of container, beware of this fact. As for as the containers, they are just great, professional looking, tight lids & the right size if you are storing flour since you can add another bag without having to wait till you used up all the previous bag. Oh yes, I prefer the round ones, they are roomy enough to use your scoop in & you don't have to scrape in those little corners. Consider where you are going to store the containers...square ones might fit your needs better. I can stack one on top of the other since I have an open shelf..they are pretty tall though. I wish I could trade my heavy glass containers for more of these plastic ones..money spent on the wrong thing. Think beyond flour...how 'bout cereals, small bags of dog/cat/bird seed? Make some nifty labels on the computer or just cut out the label of the item & paste on your container, or just buy some plain labels at the store & write on there. If you are wanting to upgrade you kitchen tools or just enjoy being a foodie, these containers will make you happy. Now go buy a couple of them & I guarantee you will be ordering some more.

I bought these to use in the refrigerator for my bread dough, after reading the book, "Artisian Bread Making in 5 Minutes a Day". They work great, are easy to use, and allow me to make a large or small batch. The lids fit tightly, but are not air tight, so they allow the dough to breath. Good product.

Like many others, I bought this set of two Cambro storage containers to store no-knead bread dough in the refrigerator. I waited patiently for several weeks after I bought the Artisan Bread In Five Minutes a Day book to receive these, as they were out of stock. I was using a plastic batter bowl with a lid to store my dough, and while it worked just fine, I could only make half a recipe because of capacity limitations. This is so much nicer. Holds an entire batch of the master recipe from the book, and came with lids to boot. This really is the best price you'll find for two containers with lids unless you find them at a garage sale or flea market or something. These containers are useful for many other things as well, including storing dry goods like flour or sugar, and storing soups and stews in the refrigerator. Having the lid makes it nice for liquids; no spills! The containers are heavyweight, are #5 plastic (I wondered about BPA before buying these but should have known better) and are made in the USA. I unpacked them, washed them, and got busy making bread!

5.0 out of 5 stars No longer a skeptic, March 30, 2010
This review is from: Cambro Round Food Storage Container Sets (Kitchen)
I was skeptical at first about spending this much money on two plastic buckets, but I have to admit it was worth every penny!!! No Tupperware could work as well as these do with making and storing wet dough in the fridge. Two is a good number to have, as I like to make more than one kind of dough at a time, and the sizes is just right even for my small fridge. From what I gathered, readng up on plastics, this clear, heavy duty food grade plastic is less likely to contaminate the dough with unwanted free radicals, and these buckets are easy to clean and store away when not in use. They also look like they will last forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not all plastic is equal. This is better., May 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cambro Round Food Storage Container Sets (Kitchen)
When stored with lids on, my ancient, sturdy, large Tupperware containers had a petroleum scent thing going on since day one. That, and I needed a more efficiently shaped vessel for storing the Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day doughs in the refrigerator. I found these plastic containers to solve these issues and more. The plastic surface is better than most for clean-up: the dough does not stick much at all, and it seems to shed water and suds better and dry more easily than other plastic products. I know that sounds crazy, but it is better than other plastics. Also, no petroleum smell after being stowed with the lid on for a day or more. And they fit in the refrigerator better than bowl shaped containers do.

Another reviewer spoke about ill-fitting lids. Mine fit, but you do have to get a lid in the right place to snap on, there's a little give and no audible snap. But hold it upside down and it is on there.

I regret that I can't recall if this has post-consumer recycled plastic in it or not, or what its own recyclability factor is. The good news is, these containers will apparently be long lived and thus out of the waste stream for quite some time. They also eliminate the need for covering a regular bowl with plastic wrap during the bread rising and dough storage processes.
