Anyone that deals with a screen door on a RV or travel trailer will immediately understand the appeal of this little closure kit; rather than having it swing open, stick to the door, step out to separate the two doors then click to close the screen...and repeat a dozen times a day...this little kit does the trick. We only installed one of the springs as it seemed to provide the right amount of tension without a "snap back"...just a gentle closure. Installation was quick and easy. No more chasing down the screen door. Simple effective and affordable.

For those that are wondering if this is more than a thin spring...not really. It's actually two thin springs with a nice tension and installation hardware. You could find same in a hardware store so only real benefit is not having to search or trial/error the tension.

I installed one of these springs at the bottom of the door. As others have said, 1 seems plenty strong to close the door without making it slam. If you only hold the door a few inches open, it won't latch. But if you open it like you are walking out it will close tight and the latch engages.

I think installing the second spring will make the door slam too hard. But its nice having the second spring just in case you need it.

I installed it using the existing screw on the outside of the screen door (where the hinge attaches). I think measured up 9" (as the directions say) and drilled a hole such that the spring fits between the screen door and the outside door when they are both closed.
- to be clear - when you are standing outside the camper, with the screen door closed, you see the spring go from the hinge on the screen door to the door frame.

The pictures in the directions seemed a little confusing to me. It looks more like they want you to put the spring on the inside of the door. But then you have the spring dragging across the frame when you open the door, scratching the frame and probably making a lot of noise.

My way of installing it has zero noise (the spring is not rubbing on anything) and it works nicely.
Just make sure there is adequate clearance between your outside door and your screen door before installing the spring.

I will take a picture if I get a chance and post it.

*** UPDATE ***
I added a picture with notes.

We had the camper out for 5 days and the spring worked great. Using just 1 spring is enough to close the screen door and it even will pull the combined screen & exterior doors closed. (not hard enough to latch, but closed). I think I will leave it as-is and keep the second spring as a backup.

This idea is the same as the house screen door closers we used many years ago. A spring that attaches to both the door and the wall. Thanks for having this, we needed to be able to keep the screen door closed because of our pets and this works great.

I wasn't going to bother reviewing these springs - pretty much everyone already says how great they are. And I can now foresee "Close the door!!!" being heard much less often as my son enters or exits the camper.

But I decided to include my 2 cents because of the instructions. Others have noted the instructions are poor - and I guess they are. I struggled until I stopped trying to match the instructions to the pictures (which were confusing to me). Then everything become pretty easy.

A key thing I had to realize was that the spring was going to be completely hidden in the gap between the screen door and outer door when both were closed. In case you never noticed it (I hadn't) there's a pretty significant gap between the two doors on the hinge side. The spring "lives" in that gap.

Tools used: Cordless drill with screwdriver bit and (I think) 1/8 drill bit for pilot holes.

So here's the installation that worked for me:

1. Stand stand outside the RV with the outer door latched open and the screen door latched closed.
2. Look up at the top screen door hinge.
3. Remove the bottom screw from the top hinge (the part of the hinge attached to the door - not the jam). Nothing will fall apart - it just comes out.
4. Put that same screw through one of the spring's end holes and screw it right back into the door/hinge exactly where it came from. Now the spring is just dangling down from the door attached to the hinge.
5. Measure down 9 inches and make a mark on the door jamb close to the screen door. So if you imagine BOTH doors closed - that mark will be in the space between the doors.
6. Drill a pilot hole at that mark.
7. Insert 1 screw from the kit through the loose end of the dangling spring.
8.

I was skeptical when I bought this door closer, but after a 10 minute installation, our camper door shuts all the time! Love it. The kids would routinely leave the door open and now it shuts no matter who's using it. Wish I had this years ago.

Its a spring right?
And Can you buy one local ? > yes but you wont get,
the tension right. Homedepot and Lowes sells springs,
but they are too big for small RV doors and will not adjust
very easy.
These guys good price easy install .
