5.0 out of 5 stars Dated and old, But one of the best all around books on real good techniques, July 31, 2008
By
This review is from: Video Camcorder School (Reader's Digest Learn-As-You-Go Guide) (Reader's Digest Learn-As-You-Go Guides) (Hardcover)
Isn't it funny or just sad how many of the newer video book concentrate on the equipment and effects like transitions and overlays and animated text. But we all know the real hard core ingredients are the way it is filmed and the day to day decisions like getting the lighting right, getting the right sound, and the planning techniques. These are the human factors and many times the hardest, yes as they require decisions and talent to make it work to perfection. This book is great, forget the VHS tapes, VHS-C, and Hi-8 references. That's a bit dated, but as long as you look through the lens even via a CCD you need the rest. No matter if you shoot on MiniDV or to a digial memory card, you still have to know how to light, frame and compose continuity. While there are a few other great books that cover parts of this book in detail, this book is an all round classic guide that should not be overlooked. This and the 5 C's of cinematography book are two must haves. The price is right to enjoy this one now.
