Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

It's a shagadelic surfin' safari, and The Bomboras have enough potato salad and board wax for everybody. Featuring some salty sax from ex-X greaser Billy Zoom, this disc is shaking from the get-go, covering much of the same dusty pop culture (i.e. beach blanket bingo) turf as our own Surf Trio, though they lack some variation in style. The lead guitar (every surf band's calling card), which alternates between down /dirty and clean/nimble is ferocious throughout, particularly on "The Creeper" (a "Wipe-Out" pilfer) and on the fuzzed-out, Ventures-like whirl, "Pier 13." With the addition of a spicy Farfisa organ for some extra texture (not to mention the occasional sax and harmonica), the sound is full and extra jumpy. Granted, the surf thing is getting cliché, but when it's this basic and bashing, you won't have much to gripe about. --John Chandler

5.0 out of 5 stars Man those cats can whale!, May 24, 1999

Once I had a listen to these cats I threw my Boss Martian and Phantom Surfer records in the trash. The Bomboras have become the band to watch out for . I can't get enough of sound that will send you into a fuzzed out frenzie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally cool pseudo-soundtrack, September 1, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: It Came from Pier 13! (Audio CD)
I just wish they could make it into a real movie! The Bomboras have again created a total sonic experience. You can practically see the lovely young surver-chicks as they race away from the monster. The world needs more music like this--it has a roaring energy that has been sorely missing in today's music.

2.0 out of 5 stars review from Roma, January 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: It Came from Pier 13! (Audio CD)
Hello music fan - here is 'Alto' from Italia - I return this cd because it was too "hollywood" for me - it sound like nothing like what I expect - i like the lofi of Savage Isles more. I like a lot better the old cd Savage Isle because it sound not so 'hollywood produceri' - for me this is too many people that try to make it like a heavy metal record. I say to sayve the money for "savage island" - there is still some GOOD song on this disc thouhg, i like 'pier 13' and 'the Creeper' is molto molto. the organs is very well played and the fuzz guitars sounds cool. I say this because the records is expensive for me here and I don't like to be dissappoint. ciao!
